Already looks better than Discovery and we only got a 69 second teaser trailer.
If they've given the writers some Ritalin I see no reason why this couldn't end up being decent. A more contemplative take on Star Trek would be right up my alley. My only worries are that it'll lack nuance in its tone and it will come off as taking itself far too seriously.
I'm ok with this.
I just hope it won't be superdepressive. I think my favourite part of TNG is the positive outlook it tries to bring. I understand this is more about character than setting, but still.
Well one of Patrick Stewart's conditions for joining the project was that it wouldn't be TNG 2.0. He wanted the character to do something new, and to be changed.
I'm sure the other condition was a lot of money.
Not much to see based on this teaser, but it should be interesting to see how they handle it. If it's true that one of Stewart's conditions was that it wouldn't be TNG 2.0 like @Tuskin said then there's hope
it'll be great.
I doubt they'll do this, but I'd love to see them try to make up for Generations by bringing back Shatner, even if it's only a single episode. I know the Shatner is old, but they literally would have to try to
make it worse than Generations.
I've seen a lot of speculation that it'll be focused on the aftermath of the supernova which destroyed Romulus. I don't think it'll be super bleak but it'll probably be struggles withing the fractured Romulan Empire.
My guess is the narrator is Romulan, and she's talking about the destruction of Romulus seen in Star Trek 09.
I just hope they don’t fuck up the ship designs for the sale of being “””cool””” like they did for Abramsverse and Discovery. Just make normal well thought out carefully designed Star Trek ships.
Which the Discovery Starfleet ships are.
Had issues loading the video, so here a mirror on Youtube. Should also work in EU because the one posted on the CBS Youtube channel is behind a region lock.

I've seen a few people mention that they think the narrator sounds like Gina Torres.
That damn 'Inner Light' flute at the end...
yeah that got me good honestly.
Okay, that’s fair. I just assumed because of Discovery’s weird lame ring saucer thing that it was all rule of cool.
Apart from the Magee class, yes.

Having to walk through the warp coils to get to your quarters in the starboard or port side must be fun. Lovely radiation.
I'm sure they're insulated.
Part of Patrick Stewart's reason for returning was to provide people with a more positive outlook of the future after all the shit that's been going on. This will probably be the Star Trek that explores the human condition while Discovery is the noisy action oriented one.
Ok, not Gina Torres

I thoroughly enjoyed discovery. Discovery was quite nice, even if it wasn't as good as some of the older ST Series like TNG and Voyager.
Tbh it'd really suck if it tried to be TNG 2.0 anyways.
Time and tone. You can't replicate those two things.
Wait, is discovery over?
Until Season 3.

According to the wiki page, they've stated the tone starts off kind of contemplative and melancholy but by the end, Picard is supposedly making his way back to the positive outlook he once had.
In the series, the character must find his way back to Roddenberry's original optimistic vision for the franchise, which Kurtzman hoped would reinforce that original vision while allowing the character to "go through deep valleys".[21]
Also Jonathan Frakes is directing a few episodes so that's cool.
Frakes has also directed 4 episodes of Discovery.
The biggest thing about this is getting content that isn't an alternate timeline/past/ or universe. But actual post DS9 and movie Star Trek.
Frakes has directed everything under the sun. He even directed this for god's sake

And some episodes of The Orville too.
