it's really odd, i've had his YouTube channel on email alert since 201,. i got 1-2 emails saying he'd uploaded a day for 6 years of my life and now nothing.
it's weird when it's someone on the internet because there's no physical proof they really existed outside of your computer in the first place, which makes it all the more surreal for me
Only a minute in and Oh Boy that's a voice I have no heard in a long time... damn
John is a good man he didn't deserve getting cancer.
The gaming community has yet to really find someone to fill his spot. His advocacy and focus on the consumer first and foremost, and his drive to push the industry to do better, that just has not been matched by anyone else really. To be honest with the outlook of certain things like the EGS, I have to imagine he'd be fucking livid people are just accepting what is happening there. He'd be kicking asses right now.
I still watch his videos every now and then, and in a way it's still hard to believe that he's gone. I'll just post what I wrote a year ago when I shared it on Facebook:

Nobody deserves getting cancer, it's horrible.
he was one of the few curators on steam i followed when they introduced the system. every now and then ill come across a game hes left a curator review on. he may be gone but hes still helping me find good games to this day.
i havent gone on his page cos i dont want to see all thr games hes reviewed, id rather see him pop up from time to time when im looking for something new to play.
I've recently watched this video and I just couldn't believe he was gone.

I love Genna Bain. She always struck me as a kind, honest, self-effacing person. It's not right that he went at the age he did, but he could have done worse than not having someone like that by his side.
If you crank the FoV slider all the way up in DUSK it’s labeled as “Cynical”. I think TB would have liked that.
i was expecting this video to make me feel happy and sad but i didnt expect to cry towards the end.
If the steam release of Ace Combat 7 didn't have a good enough options menu, TB would be rolling in his grave.
God speed, you magnificent bastard.
Man I still can't get over how much I miss having him around. Everytime a new game comes out or some big news breaks I wonder what's he's going to think about it.
And every bastard that tried to drag his name through the mud even after he died can go to hell.
Didn't she get cancer as well or am I misremembering? How's that whole thing going?
Yeah she went through chemo late last year

She hasn't updated regarding it beyond November so hopefully she's fine
Frank Klepacki did a shoutout to him during his concert at MAGFest 2019

Wish I was a sub while TB was around, he sounded like an excellent person to watch
This, when I first learned about him I just thought he was a grumpy guy with no perspective until I really got into watching their gamestation (now co-optional) podcast and realized what a lovely and genuine guy he is.
As has been said already, there's really been nobody to take his place in the gaming community. Jim Sterling sorta, maybe ish, but he´s not the same.
Ross is kind of on the rise as a champion of consumer rights but he just doesn't have the commanding presence that TB had unfortunately. He could always capture your attention.
He's also objectively wrong about things such as calling things fraud in the recent video.
Ross doesn't put out enough content on new games to have enough of a voice to make game companies listen. Also he doesn't have all the connections TB had from his earlier and later starcraft days.
The difference between TB and Jim is that TB was pro-consumer and focused on promoting positivity and ethical acts, while Jim is more focused on condemning and is mired in negativity. TB was willing to build bridges while Jim has specific targets he's too busy focusing on to do that, he's also needlessly aggressive a lot of the time.
TB was the CynicalBrit as a moniker but he was actually very optimistic, Jim meanwhile has slowly merged his 'dickhead persona' and his actual self so much they're indistinguishable. Jim commands attention, TB commanded respect.
TB just fucking loved video games, he wanted to see the industry flourish and he wanted what was best for consumers. In the co-optional podcast dedicated to him, Jesse and Dodger both said he was someone who just wanted to see his friends succeed. It's so heartwarming.
It absolutely destroys me that he didn't get to play A Way Out before passing. The game is great and it's by the people who made his favorite game, Tale of Two Sons.
Call me cynical or whatever, but I don't think there'll ever be anyone to take TB's place. I can't think of a single individual in the gaming community that has the connections, respect, optimism, presence, authority, and knowledge that he had. He's left an everlasting impact on so many games that can still be seen to this day. He literally saved games from the brink of death that have become centerpieces of the community's zeitgeist (i.e. Warframe), and bolstered the viewing diaspora to the general people (i.e. Path of Exile). He was one of the foremost content creators that allowed League of Legends, the most popular e-sport game to date, to flourish. And on, and on, and on.
Jim is the closest I feel we'll get to TB, and it helps that the two were friends besides. Yeah, Jim's more childish (sometimes insufferably so) and tends to focus more on the negative side of things, but it comes from a place of "this is screwing all of us over and no one else is talking about it, so I'll be the one to keep bringing it up". I admire him for not shutting up just because people are growing used to something and/or falling into aggressive apathy, and TB even agreed:

https://twitter.com/Totalbiscuit/status/926887302508421120
Jim isn't TB, but if there's anyone I felt was worthy of carrying on his torch, it's him.
Not with how he shilled EGS for a good while.
