Not enough. He should lose everything.
He's not even losing anything. "That $44 million is not coming from Harvey Weinstein himself, it's actually coming from insurance policies," Corinne Ramey, a reporter with Journal, tells NPR. She added that they were civil, not criminal lawsuits.
if you have the money, you can crime away!
Sexual assault and harassment is not OK.... Unless you can give me a few tens of millions, then it can be put in the past I guess
At least he's losing his reputation, career and legacy? Kind of ridiculous that he somehow had an insurance policy covering for this...
Not that ridiculous if you consider that he was probably well aware what he was doing isn't exactly legal and he needed a plan B. Weinstein was a scumbag, but he wasn't an idiot.
I'm referring to the policy/company itself not that he had contingency plans
Never underestimate the power of legal loopholes. Hollywood is one of the oldest crime syndicates in the book
right but I'm also surprised the companies werent like "we're keeping ur money lmao our policy doesnt cover that shit" because that'd be great even though they'd be doing it for the wrong reasons
"We're gonna take your ass down! Oooh, that's some nice money, thanks!"
That’s literally the entire point of civil court. This isn’t the criminal case.
Worth noting that these are settlements in a civil case, not a criminal case. The outcome can only be money and it's being distributed toward his victims (and their lawyers), it's not like the plaintiffs could have demanded he be thrown in jail. He's still being charged criminally which is where the jail sentence comes in.
That's a lot of money for someone who claims to be no guilty..
Looks like he won Fuck
Not really at all, no
FYI a civil lawsuit doesn't stop the criminal case from happening. It's not like he's paying up and that will be that.
He's losing no money, so yeah
The worst part IMO is that he's probably a more public 'sacrifice' for a bunch of people in Hollywood who've done even worse. Not that I'm saying Weinstein is innocent, not by a looong shot, but as we saw with Yewtree, this shit doesn't happen unless there's a system in place to allow it.
Insurance Policies? You can insure yourself against committing sexual assault for civil suits?
The only thing that's required for an insurance policy to exist is for someone to say "sure I'll insure you for that" The criminal trial is the one that actually matters.
Honestly it sounds like a pretty easy money scheme. Deny policies to any people you suspect are actually rapists and just collect that sweet insurance premium from the paranoids. Their critical mistake is getting fooled by Weinstein and having to actually fulfill their end of the deal.
