Mr Taylor added: "I'm not saying going to jail, but we would like to see consequences for any activity at these events that is unlawful.
"Protest is not illegal. There is nothing unlawful about protest."
Sounds like it is
I'm not entirely certain that a prosecution of people who didn't engage in violent conduct would be in the public interest.
Why is the Met so utterly shit
Easier to spend time going after normal day to day people than going after actual criminals usually.
The more news I hear out of the UK the less I view it as a free country.
Yeah I try not to go too hard on the whole police state / nanny state meme, but I swear the Met has been hard at work to meet those expectations.
It's imbecilic when you consider how crime in London has only gotten worse and the Met (or at least those in places of organisational/political power) would prefer to put the spotlight on chasing after some protesters who stopped traffic instead of cunts like the moped thieves and gangs.
Capitalist countries usually aren't.
I imagine this is a political decision rather than a policing decision, not that that's any excuse.
it's really terrible hearing the reasoning of people saying they agree with the cause but then disparaging it completely because 'it cost them money'.
Protest isn't illegal, assault is. I want to know what the 1,130 charges were before jumping to conclusions that it's a dystopian hellscape political move to silence dissidents. Considering the leaders literally asked their members to get arrested to cause disruption. If somebody is prosecuted they still have to prove they committed a crime, and merely protesting isn't one.
As opposed to what? those freedom loving communist countries? or those straight up monarchical dictatorships?
I didn't say the alternatives were better.
I'm just glad our police didn't decide to shoot these protesters, this would have gotten ugly if it was the French police in charge.
It's not particularly clear, but the title does miss the fact that these people had already been arrested for breaking the law - this is merely the Met saying they will refer them to the CPS, and it's the job of the CPS to judge whether a crime is in the public interest, not the police.
There would probably already be a lot of dismembered/dead protesters if the French police were handling the protests
