https://abcn.ws/2HUXxCX This is one hell of a story. Usually it ends in a tragedy

Incredible. 16 days is a long time, I'd love to know more about what happened.
I'm so happy it ended well! Good on them and her for keeping it together.
"She was in deep deep H'aiku," Berquist said. "She was several miles above Twin Falls, over in deep H'aiku, way off the beaten track." miles above Twin Falls, over in deep H'aiku, way off the beaten track.
Well I'm sure she kept up with her yoga while out there.
this is why you follow rivers downstream
That is in direct contrast to what is universally recommended - the closer you are to your last known position, the better your chances of being found. Unless you're in the middle of nowhere and nobody knows where you were going, it's always best to stay put. If you have to move to fresh water, then absolutely do so, but don't go wandering for miles if necessary.
that's universally recommended for being found, not for finding your own way out.
Yeah, I don't really understand how she could get lost tbh. Maui is only 26 miles across and has roads basically wrapping the entire island. If she had followed a river downstream she would've found civilization within a day or two at most.
