https://news.vice.com/en_us/article/8xzm5g/here-are-the-gops-secret-talking-points-defending-alabamas-abortion-law WASHINGTON — In the days since Alabama’s passage of the most restrictive abortion law in the nation, national Republicans have tried to distance themselves from its most controversial provisions that would outlaw abortion even in the case of rape or incest. Now, there are clear signs that is changing. Secret talking points obtained by VICE News show national Republicans are preparing to defend the law, which has not yet taken effect, but will almost certainly be struck down by the courts. According to the document distributed by the largest GOP ideological conservative caucus in the House, conservative leaders are urging members to defend the Alabama law, using the justification that an abortion would be committing more violence against a woman who was raped or survived incest. “Committing a second violent act with abortion to a woman who has already been victimized by an act of rape or incest could physically or psychologically wound her further,” the document states. “Every single child should be afforded the opportunity to live, regardless of how they were conceived.” The document was produced by the Republican Study Committee, a longtime caucus consisting of conservative House Republicans, who met Tuesday to discuss this and other matters. Entitled “Messaging in the Minority,” the document offers “messaging guidance” on “our pro-life platform” and contains a note stating it is “strictly OFF-THE-RECORD” and not to be printed or reproduced by/for media.” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy told VICE News that he has not seen the talking points, but that he does not support abortion laws without exemptions in the case of rape and incest. McCarthy is the only GOP leader who is not a member of the RSC.
So now they care about women.

Aborting that child frees her of 18 years of constant reminders of her attack, frees her of the physical stress of child bearing, frees her of the chances that a complication could kill her during childbirth. FUCK OFF, GOP
Imagine spreading the lie that having a traumatic reminder of being raped around is somehow a wonderful thing because "all children should be afforded the chance to live." It isn't like the world's overburderned with nearly seven and a half billion people already. And especially it isn't like there's the chance a complication during pregnancy or childbirth might take their own lives or render them infertile. This is so far away from so-called free speech that they should all be arrested on principle alone.
Equating abortion to rape, that's, uh... that's some real Gilead thinking there, GOP.
And after that they will go after contraceptives.
Knowing their knowledge of women's health, they'll probably also go after tampons as well.
They wouldn't dare, the pill makes too much money for their pharma daddies

Committing a second violent act with abortion to a woman who has already been victimized by an act of rape or incest could physically or psychologically wound her further Yeah, except if she willingly goes through with it then it's kinda rather unlikely that it would cause any issues there, physically or psychologically? On the other hand outlawing abortion would make them far more likely to resort to desperate measures which actually could cause further psychological or physical damage.
I could buy the argument that an abortion could be traumatizing for the mother but fuck you that's her choice to make.
"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Gen 2:7 This is pretty much the only thing the bible has to say about conception. A few other passages mention god calling people BEFORE they were conceived, but unless the right wants to ban ejaculating outside of vaginas that's hardly a defense. Biblical law even treats fetuses as property: Exodus 21:22-25 has a pregnant women step in to protect her husband from an attacker and she miscarried as a result of her injuries. For the woman's injuries, the attacker is punished with according to the laws for violence; eye for an eye. But for the miscarriage he just paid a fine.
Hell, God knowing people befire they where conceived could easily be interpreted as him veing omniscient and thus knowing who will be born in the future, not that he hated abortion.
“Every single child should be afforded the opportunity to live, regardless of how they were conceived.” "Unless you're non-white and non-Christian, then you can die in a filthy pit for all we care lol" Great, the GOP considers a rapist's rights more important than a woman's right. GTA really needs to stop leaking into reality.
It's more like the GOP wants more idiots to trick into either joining the military or to be incarcerated. Gotta be able to keep those private prisons filled and have somebodies to go to war for corporate interests. They are in this for the long game. That's why every child is needed to live.

I was going to make a post about it in one of the numerous abortion threads but it feels like the GOP position has swung markedly more radical recently. For as long as I can remember the only people refusing to make exceptions for cases of rape and incest were the wingnuts. Fairly recently even Ben "Sea level rise means cheaper homes" Shapiro said that the pro-life position should hold those assumptions. I think what is interesting about it is that the rise of the populist right has been blamed on neoliberal politics and the "SJW/progressive" left but in this case it looks like when the right gains power it doesn't snap back to equilibrium but keeps swinging right to hold on to that power.
It looks like they're trying to distract-away from something. What's happening while all the abortion out-rage is on-going?
Mueller's report isn't dead and the President is obstructing something like 24 separate Congressional investigations.
In there minds, Conservatism can not be a failure, it can only be failed
