I made a map and uploaded it to the workshop but when my friend downloads it and opens it all the props and custom materials are errors how do I fix that? another error is are portals work but you cant see through them unless you get right next to them
Well, have you packed your custom props and materials into the BSP, if not, they'll show up as errors and missing textures. Portals? you probably didn't properly place them into their spots (eg. properly and entirely filling a doorway, or a window) but I don't know much about portals so you'll probably have to ask someone else.
I assumed just compiling the map would work how do I compile props and stuff into the bsp?
There's specific programs made for it, and I think there's also one made by Valve that allows you to select certain files to pack into the BSP, I'm not really sure how to do it anymore.
thank you I think I have done it using something called vide and it made the bsp significantly bigger so now the only problems I have are the mismatched model and invalid version but vide made the compile log have a lot less errors so
This is just a warning, you don't fix it without recompiling the model, and basically there's no reason to do so. The models will still work just fine. The warning is just there to notify you that if you were to use a different (non GMOD) compiler, those props will not appear in the compiled map at all.
ohhh so I don't need to worry about that? jw because there is like so far only 1 prop I noticed was there in hammer but not in compiled version so I removed it xD so just ignore these 2 things? Error! Invalid model version "models/props_interiors/refrigerator03.mdl" WARNING! model "models/props_structure/heavy_guardrail_1024.mdl" has mismatching model version (49, expected 48)! Expect problems.
