I had no idea the same director did Streets of Fire. If you like the sort of urban fantasy of The Warriors, I can't recommend Streets of Fire enough. The film describes itself as a "Rock and Roll Fable", and it takes place in a nameless city that seems to exist in both the 50's and the 80's at the same time. It's also got music from Jim Steinman (Meatloaf's song writer), so the soundtrack is amazing. https://youtu.be/lEOvn2IaLMM
I first discovered Streets of Fire thanks to the Protomen. Their Act 2 album in particular is heavily inspired by Streets of Fire. Both in visual design and music. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/58209/df7a5cdf-3d49-44f0-8ea4-f3e5fd4e5362/image.png It really is a fantastic movie. There's really nothing else like it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arxD3Ro9mAk It's a shame they never got around to creating the trilogy. This was supposed to be the first out of three Tom Cody films. Would had loved to see more of it.
I can't believe Macaulay Culkin killed Mike.
The Warriors in my eyes will always have the best soundtrack for setting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lpWYFN7ZFc Like you cannot go wrong with this soundtrack. I actually find myself playing it a lot while going through cities at night in ARMA 3.
As much as I fucking love the movie, I have to say the game by Rockstar did a better job with handling each gang. In the movie the Furies jobbed out like chumps, but in the game they're a legitimate threat.
I think the game handled the whole subject matter way more explicitly than the movie ever did, it's what really cemented this opinion of The Warriors being this dark, violent gang movie in my head but having actually watched it yesterday evening, the movie is so unbelievably tame, it's only missing judo chops to the shoulder blades to count as a Star Trek TOS movie spinoff. The visual style is awesome but as an overall package, I really wanted it to be more ferocious just to sell me on the setting and what's happening. I never got the feeling that the Warriors are being tested and exhausted by their journey, it just feels like they're running a marathon and pretend fight some flaccid chumps along the way.
