All that's missing is Bonzi buddy.
A way to give abstract cyber threats physical form.
Wouldn't a hard drive be enough though? To make them physical that is.
Also, I honestly believe that these auctions are somehow money laundering schemes...
Six viruses?? There are several websites dedicated to archiving viruses, and they're like 60gb with hundreds of thousands of viruses. Weak.
This is an excellent example of art being about close connected rich folk and less about the art itself
So if I get a shitty laptop and put 7 viruses on it, I could make a ton of money?
Fuckin' eh, man.
Money laundering at its best
damn my grandparents got one of these, where do i get it praised?
I'm hoping joel donates this money to a good cause.
The point is though that you didn't, this person did. Hindsight is 20/20
but that's like having two or three antiviruses working at the same time
except its viruses
and its that dreaded chimp
Although the amount of money is disgusting and the art world is fucked, I think it's kinda poetic or at least funny, here's a livestream of the laptop which is apparently sealed in an airtight vent:
The Persistence Of Chaos
"The Persistence Of Chaos" is such a dramatic title but the presentation makes me think about how similar computer viruses are to biological viruses in terms of how we experience them emotionally. The computer becomes like a contaminated or even cursed object, especially in the minds of people who aren't as computer-savvy as your typical forum poster. It kind of makes me think about how even though we're really advanced as a technological society, we still have this primal fear of death and disease which bleeds into our understanding and terminology of computers
Man if they wanted to experience malware that badly they could've just watched danooct1's YouTube channel.
I know, right? They basically just copied him.

(wew, this video is 10 years old.)
As soon as I saw the title I new it was gonna be some artsy fartsy shit.
Extra emphasis on fartsy.
Tbh I wonder if its actually infected or just a video that plays on repeat, and this was all faked
Also I could have sworn this exact thing was done before.
pls

Not even as cool as the xkcd

It's long been suspected that the "high" art world is a money laundering scheme.
High art literally is just art that's valued at millions due to the people with the money saying it has value. High Art or "fine" art is just bullshit rich people crap that moves mountains of money around with little value.
People also really love to judge modern 'high art' against historical art, saying shit like "modern art isn't as good as old art!!!!" even though they're blatantly ignoring the literal centuries that have filtered out all bad out from existence.
On the other hand, centuries of art being flat out destroyed has filtered out a lot of the good from existence. The dawn of Martin Luther saw tons of catholic art destroyed that they considered "idolatry" to the point where what we know of that period is a tiny fraction of what actually existed.
Oh no, I know that but man, only six? Imagine one with literal thousands. It'll be a battle Royale of who can steal your data first.
only 6? Shit I've had way worse before on relative's machines
As if this piece sold based upon inherent merit as opposed to who you know and who is known.
If this isn't outright money laundering, that is.
