US President Donald Trump warned on Monday that US tariffs on China may still rise “very substantially,” as he said Washington was not yet ready for a trade deal with Beijing.
During a state visit to Japan, the US leader claimed that Beijing was more eager for a trade agreement to end its tariff war with Washington, which escalated in recent weeks when the
Trump administration claimed Beijing had reneged on key commitments in a draft trade agreement.
“We’re not ready to make a deal. We’re taking in tens of billions of dollars in tariffs, and that number could go up very, very substantially, very easily,” Trump told a news conference, flanked
by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. “As far as China is concerned, they want to make a deal. I think they probably wish they made the deal that they had on the table before they tried
to renegotiate it,” Trump said.
The dispute between Beijing and Washington has escalated in recent weeks, with the US raising tariffs on US$200 billion in Chinese goods after trade talks stalled amid accusations that
Beijing was seeking to rewrite the agreement.
However, earlier this month the White House said it would delay for six months plans for tariffs on Japanese and European Union car makers to allow more time for negotiation.
again and again he says and does these things and people still believe he's playing some 8th dimensional chess where we win and get a deal that overwhelmingly favors us, and humiliates china
"If you don't stop me, China, I'll shoot myself in the foot again, but this time with an even bigger gun. What do you think about that, huh?!"
-China sitting in a recliner with a bag of popcorn and soda- “No. Stop. Please don’t.”
Id say this is embarrassing but that implies a time that this administration wasn’t a complete embarrassment.
Imagine being the person who has to fix all this shit after Trump's gone.
That's going to be rough.
It'll be a Democrat and all the nuclear fallout will be blamed on them by Right-Wing media like Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage and all those intellectually dishonest lunatics who will rant and rave about the fall of our country and how fear is the only thing keeping us alive and will inevitably lead to people getting suckered into another Trump, out of said fear, to repeat the misery until something changes.
But guys Bush was an excellent president actually
The trade war is dumb af but China is definitely going to be the one who suffers the most out of it
he was also a pretty shit president, arguably worse than trump
what
he tried to invade cuba multiple times and escalated tensions to the point there was nearly a nuclear-armed war with the soviet union
that would stand out particularly. i don't think trump has had a bay of pigs tier failure yet
Can you elaborate on this point?
I've only heard the left's talking points on the matter
As far as I'm aware he tried once.
China's economic state is kind of held up on hopes and dreams, especially given their serious demographic problems. Their high reliance on shipping cheap goods to the US ultimately harms their economy the most, where the US economy is service based and comes out better. It sucks for US consumers a lot and trade wars often end with both losing out because trade is almost always a net positive for both parties, but given the factors of China's state and how its economy functions they have more to lose from it than the US.
I don't think anybody is arguing that china will be better off in a trade war than us but our economy has quite a lot of rumblings of something going wrong and the trade war is going to be a huge drag on it especially if we do slide into a recession, especially since Trump's tax cuts have effectively removed any slack we have to ease a slowing economy.
IMF released a paper about who's paying the costs:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-05-23/imf-says-u-s-paying-china-tariff-costs-contrary-to-trump-view
And the conclusion was that the losers in the end was the US and Chinese consumers.
The report concludes what most private economists have argued for months: that China doesn’t pay U.S. tariffs, American consumers and companies do. “Consumers in the U.S. and China are unequivocally the losers from trade tensions,” the IMF paper said.
According to a separate report Thursday from researchers at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the U.S.’s 15 percentage-point increase in tariffs will result in an annual cost of $831 per American household, about double the bill on Trump’s 2018 tariffs.
Trump is basically fucking up the entire world trying to punish China using these stupid tariffs.
You know, there should be a word for almost certianly misquoting history to mislead people with flat out misinformation.
"and in March 1960 he allocated $13.1 million to the CIA to plan Castro's
overthrow. The CIA proceeded to organize the operation with the aid of
various Cuban counter-revolutionary forces, training Brigade 2506 in
Guatemala."
"Eisenhower's successor, John F. Kennedy, approved the final invasion plan on 4 April 1961."
He approved it, but it wasn't his invasion. But hey, democrat, so you have to lie about him and the history of the time, amirite or amirite?
He only did it once, and he had approved of previously existing plans.
it's pretty typical republican behaviour though.
Obama enacts changes to the economy that take years to take effect. The economy starts to recover by 2015, Trump takes office, and takes credit for years of Obama era policies. People like yourself will place credit where it's not due, and place blame where it's not due, all based not on any factual reading of a situation, but based entirely on where they stand in relation to your political ideology.
I swear, the republican mindset like this is the sole reason the US has been failing so hard for almost 20 years.
it should also be noted that kennedy put a lid on a lot of the nuclear shenanigans of the 50s like SLAM, the nuclear cannons, nuclear bombers, nuclear trains, troop deployments into nuclear tests, and atmospheric testing
It's called "bullshit".
