I dig it. I hope it's not gonna be a EGS exclusive.
Mistook this for '83 this still looks good though. It's amazing how timeless the 80's aesthetic is. It's something we've been trying to recapture ever since.
Those are some nice graphics for 80s games, especially the Horizontal Shoot 'Em Up, R-Type had alright but fairly flat graphics, R-Type II had nicer gradients, 1987 and 1989 were their respective release dates, Gradius (Nemesis) came out in 1985 and it's graphics were similar to R-Type 1's, albeit slightly flatter, we only really had comparable graphics like that in the 90s I believe, at least with Horizontal Shoot 'Em Ups anyway
Its worth mentioning that Koshiro and Kawashima, The composers behind Streets of Rage, are the ones doing the music for this game.

I just can't get behind a lot of the 1980s callbacks; they dress up the 80s but then entirely remove the large swaths of negative news that occurred back then for this chique glean of a better time. And often times they place references in for things that weren't even true for back then.
I don't think that Reaganwave would have quite the same ring to it
"Aww yeah baby, I really miss that mishandled AIDS crisis. Those were the days"
People in 30 years from now will probably be nostalgic about fortnite, avengers movies, and maybe despacito, not so much about Trump.
Looks like it's on Steam: 198X on Steam
Crazy that this has to be a legitimate concern about any new game these days.
You're tellin' me. If you look at the SteamDB for Sable, another indie game I'm crazy excited about, it had an August 2019 release date for a day or two before being removed. Then just a day ago it got delayed from 2019 to 2020 sooo
