[The Sandbox] Leaking information of minors, promoting malicious activity
17 replies, posted
A user named "Darkbyte" , infamous for writing cheats, not long ago created a Sandbox server around late 2018 that I decided to staff on, as well as a few friends of mine, and I spent a majority of my time on here, staffing and building as this a sandbox server, seemed pretty innocent to say the least, huh?
The more I played on the server I saw a side of Darkbyte that I was.. well, I was pretty disappointed to say the least. I was told by him, and by others, that he is a prominent member of the cheating/propkill/hacking community, as well as somebody who doxes, ddoses., etc.
He told me he changed, and he wasn't like this anymore as this is an identity he created for himself years ago, I too have been in a similar situation and understand what it's like, so I decided to give him a chance and join his community. Now, on all servers, guaranteed you will have a troll every now and then, someone who's on the server to fuck around or whatever, then you ban them and it's over with, right? On this "Kid Friendly" server they take it a step further and leak information of said troll in the center of everyone screen who's on the server. This information is usually an IP, City & State, and Darkbyte (Lisa VMT) will take it a step further and post their ip in chat, and if the ip gets hit offline, they play the victim card.
Not only does this violate the Facepunch ToS, it's also illegal, and it's objectively bad behavior to any reasonable person, for my own safety, I won't disclose too many details of who I am, but feel free to ask any questions.
These are the accounts Darkbyte, or "Lisa VMT" goes by, at least on the sandbox server.

Now, here's somebody getting kicked (with a pretty creepy message) for having a different opinion.

Renderstorm, an administrator as well as Does Shunpo Hack are staff on this "Kid Friendly Server, well- no, everyone who is staff on the server has to adjust to Lisa's (Darkbytes) malicious activities and judging off the first screenshot, Renderstorm seems reasonably shocked that somebody was kicked with a creepy message like "I know who you are and where you live. Be careful" simply for having a different political view? The second screenshot is a screenshot taken minutes after the kick, explaining the reasoning why he was kicked for that reason. I guess it's for having a different view?

shes just posting public info lol. and ur confusing user with lisa as they're two different people. the other server owners are rak and electfried.

What I meant by "user" was that he's a user of the facepunch services as well as somebody who owns the sandbox server, so I guess an "owner"? Seems like that information is irrelevant, seeing as he was leaking information about minors as shown in the screenshots above.
Cite a source that states posting an IP address is illegal alongside ToS infringement.
iv. Interfering: hack, harm, grief, harass, threaten, interrupt, interfere with or misuse the Facepunch Services, accounts, network software and services or Facepunch’s other users, community members or staff.
Cited directly from the facepunch ToS.
Posting the ISP, IP address, network information, etc, of a child (or any user for that matter) for all players to see and telling them "I know where you live, be careful" doesn't work in this community, nor does it belong anywhere else. You don't see any formal server doing this, that's because they get blacklisted.
Attempting to use the "but it's not illegal" arguement here won't get you very far, with the community nor the mods, I suggest owning up to your wrongdoings, or not replying at all if you really want to save face.
As soon as you join someones server they have access to your IP, if he decides to post it in chat then there's not much you can do. It's an asshole thing to do but you can't stop it.
Just don't play on his server.
You are forgetting this server is hosted by a third party that is not affiliated with Facepunch. The document is binding between a user and Facepunch; not a server and Facepunch. Besides, what dictates you being able to decide what can/cannot be publically done on a server? Especially with users knowing and agreeing to data being collected on them in the MOTD...
You also failed to answer my original question, probably because you do not have an answer for such a ridiculous claim.
This is all wrong, an IP is public information when you connect to the server, the owners electfried ,rak ,merio ,lisa, exetra don't do that anymore and when it was it was to people who would threaten to ddos the server and sever racists, they stopped doing it when the server started to get very popular and these screenshots are months old. and its sad people are attacking this server its really good has good plugins and good staff this guy clearly hates it cuz they hate them lmfao
I have played on the sandbox before as admin and never seen anyone get ddosed by any staff members so that part is an outright lie... in fact yes the owners will expose the ip of people who are coming on the server and trying to ddos, exploit or threaten players so i dont see how this is a bad thing tbf..
the person who made this thread has never been an admin or staff probably and had to deal with minges before and dont realize that disclosing their IP and putting on an IP ban the account is a good way to make sure they never come back.
Per UK law
An IP address in isolation is not
personal data under the Data Protection Act, according to the
Information Commissioner. But an IP address can become personal data
when combined with other information or when used to build a profile of
an individual, even if that individual's name is unknown.
Per common sense,
Your IP address is public information. It is given out to every website you connect to. You can find what the rough location of a person is from an IP.
It is not illegal in any country, state, or city to give out an IP address. It's just an asshole thing to do.
thanks hacking ur ip as we speak
So is this some personal army request, or what?
Also, i'm pretty sure the only one violating Facepunch TOS is you by creating alt accounts on here.
IP is public info, every site or server you connect to has it.
Unless he has multiple VPN connections, those are not the OP.
You don't have to tell people who you are, everyone knows who sent you.
addip works too, without even needing to post it publicly for flunkies to DDoS for you, even if they dare mention racist, small handed devil.
Garry's Mod is a Facepunch service, of which your server is publicly hosted and displayed in the server browser.
I'm not going to play lawyer, but seeing how 'The Sandbox (Kid-Friendly)' is probably conditioned to damage control when it comes to bullying, grooming, and harassing children, I don't think it's the facepunch community you should be proving your innocence to.

This thread should be a good reference for anyone deciding to become staff, or donate to this server. Your information is not safe here, nor do they wish to confine their activities to discord, but it's clear what they're doing given in-game chat and what takes place on this 'third-party' server.
Valves games, and thousands of other games, have IP's openly accessible for all to see. Virtually all games that run dedicated servers do this, its literally a basic function of how they work.
People DDoSing IP's has literally been a thing since 90's gaming. It's not this original thing that threatens only you.
The world doesn't revolve around you.
Not a single person out there cares about you. Not really. Unless you REALLY piss a lot of people off, in which case, that's very easy to avoid.
If you don't want your IP out there use a VPN. I use https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/2018-holiday-deal , it's affordable and most of a VERY EFFECTIVE.
To better correct your flaw it's hosted on Steam not Facepunch. That's why when you open other source engine based games the same servers show up in the legacy browser; it is not bounded by one game.
You have only provided pictures that are incriminating and does not show anything that is providing merit to the claim of grooming, bullying, or harassing. The individuals that get their IP leaked are often the morons that join the server parading hate speech or things that completely break the server rules. I do not care at all if some kid cries in his sleep because his IP gets leaked on everybodies screen; they had it coming to them in the first place.
This IC3 complaint is just about as kek worthy as someone saying they are going to report someone to the cyber police. You're genuine failbait at its finest.
tl;dr I've dealt with this shit enough since 2009 to know exactly what's going on.
The host/admin publicly posts your IP on the server to have an alibi then they attack you. "Oh it wasn't me it was someone on my server".
Posting your IP isn't illegal or against the law. It doesn't link to your real identity in any way shape or form. Even if they looked up swip information it's just going to show your ISP unless you have a static IP address, which usually is only for business customers.
Now, if you get attacked you can file a report with IC3 as mentioned above and reference all of this. 10% chance you can link it back to the host. 50% chance the IC3 will investigate, since they're very interested in botnets, especially reflected attacks.
I usually just ignored attacks, but there was this one time someone was super high and left a voicemail on my business phone trying to blackmail me and admitting to the attack so I forwarded all of that information to the IC3. Never heard back from the IC3....... but I also never heard back from the guy trying to blackmail me.
Alright this threads run its course. All the helpful replies are in this thread and this doesn't need to here nor should threads like these be created.
No more.
