If we ever do become a fascist dictatorship, I hope it's with someone like Trump at the helm, because maybe his incredible stupidity and refusal to listen to anyone who has even the slightest idea what they're talking about will get us destroyed when we inevitably start WW3
I wonder if gold plated flight decks are going to be part of this overhaul
What if it turns out that Trump is wildly incompetent at everything but just happens to be a savant when it comes to aircraft carrier design and ends up revolutionizing the very concept of power projection.
While that's probably the best for the world at large, that's still going to absolutely suck for those of us stuck in the US. Life wasn't exactly sunshine and unicorns for people living in the Axis powers, once the blockades and the bombings started.
Yeah but at least it was better than Hitler and Mussolini staying in power indefinitely.
“They want to show -- next, next, next. And we all want innovation, but it’s too much.” We're innovating so much that we're innovating too much. ???
So he based his decision on how loud they cheered for steam catapults aboard the USS Wasp? A ship which does not have catapults of any kind?
On the other hand, the only field Trump has had any measure of success in is real-estate where he specialized in building towers. What is an aircraft carrier but a skyscraper on it's side? Think about it.
Are you saying Trump tower has steam powered elevators?
If he's actually right that the newer system is $900m more, then it might not be such a bad idea to stick to something cheaper, but I'd much prefer the US didn't waste more money on its insanely large military by getting MORE carriers, to be honest. This is more likely classic boomer logic of new things being bad just because they're new.
If it were somehow cheaper than a regular one then you can bet your ass he'd install them
It's worth noting that this is developing the system fresh for future generations of carriers. The Ford is simply the first ship to come into service utilising, thus all the costs are on her.
If I've understood it correctly though, the electromagnetic catapults causes much less wear and tear on both the ship itself and the aircrafts. It gives the huge advantage of being able to fine-grain control the catapulting force through the entire throw.
I wonder how much somebody paid to make this happen.
I'm sure he knows better than 80 years worth of history, revisions, and engineers
And I thought the UK changing their catapult configuration for the *two* carriers three times was bad. And they had fairly good reasons for changing it, not just "It needs to be different because it needs my name and MAGA stamped on it".
Imagine if someone told him about the F-35.
Imagine being the engineers that designed this and having Trump take one look at it and change it back. I would be seething with rage.
Did someone tell him the steam catapults were fired by clean coal?
He did say we were going to get tired of winning so much...
I think he knows “They’re always coming up with new ideas, they’re making planes so complex you can’t fly them,” he said.
Not enough gold and ivory.
Oh my god, he also said the Ford was still under construction, it launched almost 2 years ago. lmao.
Trump's brain is steam powered. And the boiler's got several leaks.
I don't see how you can upgrade what is essentially a diet star destroyer, but what the fuck do I know, I'm just a random dumbass on the internet.

He's been doing this for years now. His policies are dictated by how loud an applause his ideas get.
Hitler and Mussolini had their egos so up into their asses that any general had them easier to lie them than tell them the truth: see Mussolini attempt to control Albania and Greece, and Hitler during the late stage of the European theater. Considering how Trump was feeling proud of "giving a big punch to Al-Assad" back when they bombed these airfields, I fear that he would believe the US army is invincible, sending thousands of dozens if not more to die.
As shitty as that would be, the idea that the person in charge of an American dictatorship during WW3 would actually be competent is far more terrifying.
