It’s literally incomprehensible to me that these hacks are allowed to keep ruining shows like this. It’s not hard. It’s really, really not hard to get just moderately right, and they keep getting it so, so distractingly wrong.
Don't worry, they'll fix it in post /s
Would be cool to see a cgi The Witcher film like that Beowulf film.
im amazed the only good choices so far have been the casting choices for Ciri, Renfri and Stregobor. Henry as Geralt is still lukewarm to me. everything else has just been a mess so far. cant imagine the mindset of the writers, designers and showrunner.
it's annoying too cos they already have cool shit to base it off, and even past that, other than the fantasy setting stuff, the witcher is a pretty standard medieval setting

I'm not sure what they're going for?

Real talk: forget about accuracy for a moment, disregard how much it doesn't look like the original, seriously, try and think of it as its own thing. What's that thing supposed to be, anyway? What's this look? I don't get it at all
As the article, points out; they're not using the games as reference. In fact, they probably couldn't even if they wanted; CDPR isn't in on this at all so it can't look like their designs. We knew it would look nothing like the games.
That said, what they have looks like crap. The closest message I can imagine this design to convey is "generic evil quasi-magic dark force". And if that's what they're making Nilfgaard into I will feel like headbutting a broad axe.
Btw, gambeson, or 'cloth' armor, which looked like this

Existed and was effective.
That's the closes thing I can see that being to, however the trouble is that I already see a longsleeve gambeson underneath.
What the fuck are they doing
its a fucking raisin
I try to resist outrage-bandwagons. But fuck, That's just about the shittiest attempt at a costume i've seen in a long time. That's made out of old camping gear or something.
Maybe- that's just supposed to be a stuntman's protective getup for stunt shots? God i hope so.
Someday, there will be a critically acclaimed adaption of a game to movie/TV show.
But buddy, it ain't today.
Ribbed for your displeasure
It's clear they're trying to have the scrotum-stuff be some kind of armour on top of whatever else.
The designs are said to be closer to the books. And I think there was a translation error somewhere because I don't remember the books describing Nilfgaard as wearing literal charcoal shit for armor
Shit for armor? Of course, why didn't I think of that! No one would even bother trying to attack a guy covered in shit for fear of getting his sword dirty!
Is there a description of the armour from the books? I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt and say it might be based on that but I'm not familiar enough with book Nilfgaard.
Shitty armour aside, I really think they are going to struggle with criticism from people who don't seem to understand that this isn't based off the games.
Oh god that looks terrible.
someone had to use all of the fallout 76 duffle bags for something
I think most people would be fine with a book-based approeach, it just needs to look more, or as compelling than what the CDPR designers came up with.
And not look like a cardboard ballsack.
Tbh i think it’s interesting, reminds me of tree bark
also, where were all the articles for all the other on set leaks like this one

This is just pure outrage culture tbh, don’t report on things that don’t drive controversy/clicks. Mundane leaks of stuff like vilg and yen on set leaks dont get the same traction.
What the fuck is this lmao, somehow they managed to design the most visually appalling thing I have ever seen. It literally looks like a elephant scrotum painted black.
I always really loved the general aesthetic CDPR had designed for Nilfgaard, I understand that there is likely some licensing stuff involved with adapting that look but this is on the complete opposite side of the quality spectrum. I can't fathom that this design had to pass through multiple designers, meetings, directors and producers and they thought this looked good enough to use.
Some other leaks too:

Gambeson was pretty effective but it was usually combined with other armour on top. Wasn't gambeson primarily for absorbing some of the energy from blunt weapons? At any rate, the picture in the OP looks too thin for gambeson.
Oh well, you'll likely hardly see any nilfgaardian soldiers if I remember the books correctly.
Although, I think the one guy who was after Ciri throughout all the books, I think he was from nilfgaard, unless I'm misattributing his black armor.
The bad stuff, the good stuff, it all looks VERY made for TV. I'd expect a bit better out of a Netflix series
