"This gameshow host is kicking cancer's ass."
"Who is Alex Trebek?"
About 56,770 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year, and about 45,750 will die from it, according to the American Cancer Society. The five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is about 9 percent, the organization reported.
That is horrifying, but shows just how lucky a man he is.
While certainly lucky, having access to likely superior healthcare helps to offset these odds as well.
That's not how cancer works, especially not stage four pancreatic cancer. It's not like you can purchase some super expensive pill that magically makes a cancer that has progressed that much go away. The only reason Alex Trebek is alive is because he randomly won the cancer lottery. He got the exact same treatment anyone else with stage four pancreatic cancer gets in this country. And he's not even out of the woods yet, because agressives cancers that go into remission often come back with a resurgence.
Seriously, I know our healthcare system fucking sucks, but could you try not to bring it up regarding situations where it legitimately makes no difference how much money you have?
I don't know why but every time I see this come around in SH again I keep think of Alan Tudyk and it scares the hell out of me.
