I find that extremely hard to believe as an overall thing, even if self-contained areas might be unusually violent for certain communities. Knife crime is definitely a bigger problem in London in recent years, but 8 people stabbed to death in the span of 6 months in a city holding 8 million people doesn't feel like a good reason to send your children back to a country with a murder rate of 4.31. The murder rate in the UK is 1.2. Getting figures for the areas of London spoken about are probably a little harder, but I can't imagine the stats are great in Mogadishu either. I'm not trying to dismiss the concerns of parents doing this as I'm sure their experiences are awful, but I just meant that extrapolating that London is more dangerous than Somalia as a whole from this is probably premature.
Yeah, they're either fools or this is sensationalism.
The vast majority of knife crime seems to be gang related, including the victims, Maybe the parents taking this action are scared of their kids joining gangs and stabbing other people/getting stabbed rather than being victims of random acts of violence.
8 people stabbed out of 8 million is a pretty good figure, I doubt you'd find a US city with similar statistics.
It was 100 people in 6 months but the article said 8% were Somali, hence my using the number 8, so you'd probably find London is more dangerous than a few US cities, although generally, the UK is safer, yeah.
100 people in 6 months is still better than a lot of cities, that's before you even look at the levels of drug overdoses here which are almost entirely a product of our medical system
