I feel like there are bigger problems with this game than what ZP and most people argue about, which are very likely entirely subjective and my own lone opinion.
RAGE is a better game than RAGE 2. There. I've said it.
RAGE 2 really does feel like it was made by the B or C team. Things aren't very well put together, with certain enemies having messed up textures and you being able to look through the empty inside of their corpses, animations that keep playing when the game is paused, and what I think is an odd bug of continuity right after the assault in the beggining of the game, where its suddenly day time and the fog clears up instantly or something... On top of that, things don't seem to have the same quality I'd expect a game from Bethesda to have. This isn't counting F76 obviously.
The first RAGE on the other hand, seems like it was a much more solid house of bricks in comparison. But then again, it seems I'm the only one who has never had any problem with it, other than the varied levels of texture pop in, ranging from mildly bad to 500+ ping kind of bad.
It isn't just the technical aspects that I find the first game doing better than the second.
The first game seems like it focuses itself on a more serious story. A more serious display of what the world turned into, with places being turned into mutant hives, showing how horrible things have become for the unlucky that mutated, and how that affected places that were once marvels of technology full of busy day to day lives.
The only problem this had, is that its extremely forgetable. I like this game, but it doesn't really leaves a mark, unless you're like me and find something about it that somehow ticks you the right way.
RAGE 2 on the other hand, starts with loads of "yee haww", completely opposite to the prequel, and reminds me too much of lunatics in borderlands, raving about random things and making random jokes.
But what pisses me off the most?
RAGE had a very pleasant look to it. A bit brown every now and then, but...
At least it didn't rave the shit out of your eyes like RAGE 2 did. My god, why so much color, holy shit...
It'll become the new brown/desaturation filter that early games had
"The public complained that our games didn't have any color in them?! Well we'll show THEM colors!" - The games industry, completely fucking missing the point, as usual.
RAGE 2 is a fine game overall, but the design is inherently flawed since your abilities and weapons mean jackshit when you can snipe people with the starting AR for the entire game and skip over literally everything. Force people to go get that double jump and seismic slam, that way you can actually have interesting design based around them. Don't relegate the "fun" things to optional content because it makes the entire game more bland.
