This was out of nowhere
the game was actually fun as fuck, even the goal-less pve mode was really fun
Oh yeah, this game, I honestly forgot about it, it's shutting down might not mean shit to me personally but I think it's hilarious how it's still in early access, like the people who paid for this game never saw the finished product, totally not something I've ever heard of before when it comes to early access games.
The more I think about it the more annoying it is, because whereas with other early access games that were never completed, you could at least still play them, whereas with this game you won't be able to since it's online only, so they're a developer that's now unreliable who made a bad decision, they could've implemented something to allow people to continue playing, but now they can't and they're only going offer refunds to anyone who purchased it in the last month? Why only the last month, so they don't lose even more money on their failure? Yeah, sucks for anyone who bought it before this period then.
Another thing, "that millions would play" Well god damn you set the bar extremely high, not thousands of players, but millions.
Honestly this is out of nowhere too. The devs have always been very responsive and open. They made videos and blog posts detailing updates and ideas.
They've mentioned that it's possible they could sell the game to another company, but it's unlikely anyone would buy it because the game is in the red in terms of profits. the only company i could see buying it is epic and you know how that would go
I'm wondering if this is a play to get attention. Honestly I had never heard of the game, and if I knew it existed I'd have bought it. Now that I see this I want them to not shut down.
It is very fun but it loses its spark rather quickly. It's an endless cycle of "fly to a new island. find the research containers. upgrade ship. repeat" with an occasional "fly through the next barrier wall without dying" thrown in. Killing players is fun but not very rewarding at the end of the day in my opinion. I'm not terribly surprised that it isn't selling well.
It honestly seems like the type of game that a solo hobbyist dev could make (albeit at a slower pace) and run servers off of an $80 dedi.
That's a shame, I never played it but I knew people who did and all of them seemed to dig it.
I was super close to buying it multiple times. They had these limited amount of copies they would allow to be sold then there would be long waits for the next set. If the price wasn't so steep (I think it was £25-30) I would have bought it easily. There are people complaining about low population issues in the reviews. On top of that steep feature list it seems like they have done this to themselves. Feel free to correct me.
I think theres really two big things that killed the game
hardly any advertising. They didnt sponsor anyone to play it or anything. It just released it feels like. they also advertised it as a peaceful exploration game when it was kinda like rust with airships
the PVE server was kind of hamfisted and split the playerbase. The pve server also highlighted how little to do there is at the time (because you could never lose all your stuff it ws always progression)
i think if they made the low tier areas non-pvp and then the top half be pvp then the game would have been much better off. The game had the common issue of high tier ships speeding around spawn areas stomping new players
Not really surprising, i gave the game a shot a bit ago and the tutorial and things you did during the tut were ridiculously awful and buggy to the point i just refunded right there. Some nice ideas and i've dealt with worse but so little polish seemed to go into the basics and just touching the wrong piece of terrain would physics glitch and instakill you.
i just want to say this forum is shutting down before the game does.
It’s a damn shame. I loved the idea so much. I bought two copies, for my fiancé and I, but for some reason it ran like garbage for both of us at any settings, and we never played it again.
