Or a man doing the same thing in Tunisia during 2010. Mohamed Bouazizi was his name and he did it because police continuously harassed him and prevented him from selling his produce.

Reminds me of when this almost happened in front of the capitol building in Olympia WA, my mom saw it happen right from her office window. Apparently this military veteran who was pretty well known in the offices walked out to one of the flag poles on the campus with a tank of gas and started dousing himself with it, but he got tackled by security before he could light the fire. Pretty bizarre shit.

Self immolation is usually a political protest and done in times of extreme strife. I think it says something about the state of the world today that immolations are returning in a country that poses itself as the pinnacle of development and society.
There is something deeply unsettling about this medieval ass shit happening in 2019 in US right infront of the White House, like something out of a really bad nightmare or a surrealistic horror movie.
At least 5 people have set themselves on fire for political reasons in the last few years alone.

Chloe Sagal, 2018 - Trans game developer pushed to the edge by online harassment, Kiwi Farms mainly. Protest against rampant homelessness and lack of mental health support. Died.
John Watts, 2018 - Air Force Veteran. Another protest against the VA office. Died.
They all fucking died.
