https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/louisiana-passes-fetal-heartbeat-abortion-ban-democratic-gov-expected-sign-n1010976 The Louisiana House of Representatives passed an abortion ban on a 79-23 vote Wednesday that would prohibit women from terminating a pregnancy once a fetal heartbeat has been detected. Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards has indicated that he would break with his party and sign the ban if it crosses his desk. The Senate already approved the bill with amendments that include language to require an ultrasound and clarified that abortion did not include medically necessary terminations. The House rejected an amendment Wednesday that would have provided an exception to the bill for women and girls who had been impregnated through rape or incest. Edwards, who was elected governor in 2015, describes himself as a "pro-life candidate." Louisiana is also considering a bill that would ask voters to add a constitutional amendment that would declare that the state doesn’t protect abortion rights. The ban, which includes an exception for pregnancies deemed "medically futile," would only take effect if a similar bill in Mississippi is held up in a federal appeals court, according to the bill's text. A federal judge on Friday issued a preliminary injunction blocking Mississippi's fetal heartbeat anti-abortion law from going into effect, saying it infringes on women's health care rights.
the heart starts beating when the fetus is less than an inch long
i'd love to see an avocado-tier counter campaign to outlaw masturbation in Alabama and Louisiana, after all, every sperm is sacred and given to us by god, spilling seed is as bad as killing a million baby fetus's. #Justice4Pitttheglintinthemilkman'seye
There isn't even a heart, it's a nerve impulse firing off at that point but it doesn't connect to jack shit. Since when do we determine life status by heartbeat, anyway? Is this the fucking 17th century? Imagine of doctors wrote patients down as dead the second their heart stopped beating.
Hyuck hyuck hyuck MEE MAW AND PAW PAW GON BE SO HAPPY, YEE YEE
Pro-lifers use "hey something twitched, it must be a living breathing thinking human being" as an excuse to limit abortion as early as possible. No one gives a shit about a human if it doesn't have a functioning brain - not just a raisin in the shape of a brain, but a working brain, nervous system attached and working as well. Which isn't really until past 20 weeks or so. And about 1% of abortions happen after that point. There's a reason why almost nobody considers pulling the plug on a braindead patient as murder.
If they think the heart is where the "soul" is, more like the -30th century.
The heart is symbolically stated to be where people's emotions are from (e.g. the term "kind-hearted") I just think that it's perfect an emotionally-charged bill is based on emotionally-charged symbolism. It perfectly encompasses the entire pro-life movement. All emotion, no logic. There's nothing that makes the heart any more important than other vital organs, but they don't have the same emotional impact and symbolism, both of which are logically meaningless. Just imagine a fucking "liver bill" or "small intestine bill."
Also, if you're having a late term abortion, it's going to be for a reason that's absolutely tragic to everyone involved in it, not because the mother made a stupid decision.
What if they just don't check for a heartbeat lol
Conception begins at cummies! I know there's no line you can draw in the sand that says here's where life begins. There just isn't. But I think any time before fucking synapses are formed and start firing is a good enough spot to allow for abortions, and is a good compromise. No one's carrying a baby to the day before term only to have an abortion
Most pro-lifers believe that life starts during conception, not in the ballsack, so I don't think that argument would phase them. If anything you'd probably see some religious nutjobs stand behind it because masturbation is a sin.
unfortunately this is exactly the myth that they spread, that women are having abortions of full term babies all the time and that by the time a heartbeat is detected its clearly a full sized ready to be born baby
Wtf I didn’t know that seeking health care in other states was illegal now. Do we seriously need national reciprocity laws for reproductive healthcare now?

Okay so like anyone else, I pretty much went “...HUH?!?” when I read this. So I took it upon myself to see what the fuck he’s talking about, and apparently it’s about this: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2019/05/29/abortion-law-in-illinois-may-expand-reproductive-rights/1269467001/ The Illinois House voted 64-50 on Rep. Kelly Cassidy’s Reproductive Health Act, which would rescind prohibitions on some late-term abortions and 45-year-old restraints such as criminal penalties for doctors performing abortions, all measures whose enforcement has been prohibited by court orders.
Literally has nothing to do with it actually being a heart or being a real heartbeat. It's purely a marker to determine how many weeks into the pregnancy in order to set a specific time in the pregnancy to restrict it. It would be impossible to say, "outlaw abortions after week 3 of pregnancy" because it's nearly impossible to tell the difference between week 2 or 3, or 3 or 4 exactly, especially down to the day.
this shit is terrifying and it needs to stop
