• Razer Kraken Chroma 7.1 - Mic randomly not working (also irl mute button)

As the title says, I'm having problems with my Razer headphones. They used to work fine on Windows 7, but after updating to 10 i'm having issues making the mic work. For example, when i join a Discord channel, the mute button (The actual mute button that's on the mic and becomes red when you mute yourself), completely gets stuck either on not muted or muted, other times mic doesn't pick up anything. The workaround I found is mashing the button till it keeps working, after this both mic and the button work fine. That until i've discovered today that If I watch a youtube video the mic disables itself and the mute button stops working. Windows doesn't detect it as disabled, however if you go in audio settings and disable>enable it it starts working again, albeit with the mute button still stuck. If i keep Discord open and i'm in a channel, and I watch a youtube video, nothing happens and the mic works fine. So yeah tldr it's like as if the drivers are conflicting against themselves with mutliple apps even if i've disabled everything regarding mic priority, but also a hardware thing since the mute buttons also stops working (and shouldn't that be unrelated to drivers)? I've also reinstalled Razer Synapse with no results. I don't know what to do other than getting another headset, if you've got any ideas, any help would be appreciated.
First thing I'd probably recommend is to turn of synapse (not uninstall), unplug, and start deleting all drivers related to the headphones in Device manager Looks like https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/716/a1027ba7-3d9d-4561-83d1-8ba5edf413fb/image.png After that reboot, plug it back in and see how it goes. Don't worry about deleting drivers as they reinstall automatically. 7. 1's are notoriously shit, and besides that, marketing word scams. Most headphones already have stereo so digitally "recreating" it in the form of 7.1 doesn't... actually emulate anything. On top of that Razer products are always of Chinese quality. If you want a new headset I'd go for either a clip mic or standing mic. Some mics even attach to a pair of headphones. https://www.amazon.com/Professional-Microphone-Omnidirectional-Smartphones-Cancelling/dp/B016C4ZG74/ref=sr_1_9?keywords=mic&qid=1559395833&s=gateway&sr=8-9 https://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-BoomPro-Microphone-Gaming-Communication/dp/B00BJ17WKK/ref=sr_1_50?keywords=mic&qid=1559395833&s=gateway&sr=8-50 I haven't personally used them but they have good ratings Headphones that I use https://www.amazon.com/Philips-SHP9500S-Precision-Over-ear-Headphones/dp/B00ENMK1DW/ref=pd_bxgy_23_img_2/144-6231371-4967253?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00ENMK1DW&pd_rd_r=9a21d520-8471-11e9-ba98-0ff29dc49ff2&pd_rd_w=qYBES&pd_rd_wg=9aJdm&pf_rd_p=a2006322-0bc0-4db9-a08e-d168c18ce6f0&pf_rd_r=SYN9MJEMX2RG3QQZ2QDQ&psc=1&refRID=SYN9MJEMX2RG3QQZ2QDQ That being said Open-air aren't good for talking because they have zero noise insulation, however they're excellent for stereo. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HVLUR54/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 the M40's are perfect for listening to voices because of being tuned flat. Only issue is that they're even more expensive than the philips, use propretary cords (also expensive) and are probably better with third party extra soft cushions (even more money) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N6ZJH96/ref=psdc_12097479011_t2_B000AJIF4E Also found this, haven't used it but the reviews are great. This would definitely be a good budget buy. It can even be daisy chained which is cool as fuck. Really though generally any cheap headphones can work. Just make sure you only buy ones with detachable cords.Makes it harder to break Never buy USB Avoid built in Mics Never buy 'gaming' brand crap or gimmicks.
Thank you for your in-depth reply, i'll try wiping all the drivers to see if things get better. If I had to buy a new headset, i'd be forced to go USB instead of jack, the reason is that my front panel jacks don't work anymore, and I'd have to plug it on the back of the pc, which i don't have easy access to because of the shape of my desk. Isn't there really anything good on the USB side? Issues aside, I like the sound quality of these Razers i'm using.
I'd go for customer support first then, I don't really know any USB headphones. Just avoid anything logitech (shit software) or razor (shit hardware) and you should be fine. There is always USB adapters anyways. And thankfully with these headphones, the cords are easily long enough to reach. If you don't have enough reach with the philips you can always buy a longer cord, and the m40x has very long curly cords, which means they stretch to 7+ feet. I can easily walk across my room no issue.
Windows has 7.1 to binaural stereo processing built in. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/458919/bdae9fa9-6179-4302-b81c-2a16433b7752/image.png It will probably give better directional audio than the Kraken 7.1, because it can simulate larger speaker separation than the tiny separation the kraken has. How a sound is supposed to sound like when it comes from a certain direction is a known* variable, so you don't need more than 1 speaker in each headphone to get directional audio, you only need processing. Most games have some level of processing. *Ear shape affects how you perceive sound direction, and software doesn't account for this.
I've just tried removing every Razer driver I had in device manager, didn't work. Thanks for the help anyway. At this point I'll consider saving some money for a new pair of headphones, i'll have to deal with this for now.
I guess you could snap the mic off and replace it with an antlion modmic.
I've been thinking about something like that minus the snapping off. These Razers work fine on the headphone side, it's just the mic that's been giving me issues, so I could disable the Razer mic from the mixer and use another mic as replacement. Maybe not the antlion because it's really too expensive, perhaps something in the 10-20 euro range.
