I wonder if this is a legitimate investigation, or whether it's another example of the President using the nation's police as his private army.
Good to get a start anyways. A corporation as large, unaccountable, and evil as Google really needs its teeth kicking in.
They could've just stuck with their old slogan but they just had to get greedy.
Man i hope this actually leads to something and not turn into grandpa's tech support again.
Wish we'd start with the telecoms tbh.
yes investigate Google instead of the companies who are actively undermining Americans on a daily basis like ATT, etc.
Companies who are actively undermining the American people? You mean like google?
Blocking ads or pushing for a single browser in an OS is pretty fuckin tame compared to buying up every competitor (ATT/DirecTV/time warner/etc), "encouraging" people to use your service, suing cities to prevent competitors (and lobbying states to forbid cities from starting their own telecom infrastructure), destroying utility poles, having awful reliability, consuming shittons of america's tax dollars for improving infrastructure when a huge portion of their clientbase still can only receive DSL from them
but OK rate me dumb and be oblivious to all of this
maybe we can agree that they both are shit and not start a shit-flinging contest
Well i stand corrected.
I mean, they've had their teeth kicked in before, but back then it was by China, and arguably that's when Google started on the path they've reached today.
unlike facebook and amazon, Alphabet has been actively anticipating this. just look at their corporate structure, they can easily split off businesses as they see fit, every company has its own CEO and Csuite of executives
Can't, those companies currently own the FCC while we remain under Republican rule.
the FCC isn't involved in most of the antitrust process, the real problem is with the 70s scotus's interpretations of antitrust laws which must prove there's immediate harm to consumers and the current administration's willingness to challenge mergers. Its yet another place where our government has failed for a long time and is all by design for the few who profit from it.
I wouldn't be surprised. He did complain about Google because if you typed idiot into it you just got Trump results
its been the republican talking points for the 2020 election that they will prevent these private companies from censuring their own platforms, instead of acknowledging that their supporters are spreading hate speech and are white supremacists
boy I can't wait for this wonderful thing to be fluffed as Trump trying to censor google
You know I really dont wanna go all "THANKS OBAMA" meme but here it's inescapable. In 2012, Google was hit with a heavy antitrust violation and they just sorta let it slide. I think it's gotten much bigger since then!
Legit, even though I highly doubt the current system to do it, companies like google need to be broken up. I hold no trust in private entities to hold power over nigh utilities that become a part of our world's current spine. Personally I feel they should be internationalized but obviously that's not going to be any time soon.
