blizzard is so incredibly fucked. There are plenty of great artists and developers working there, but the management has been getting shittier and shittier for a long, long time.

Blizzard is far from what it used to be to begin with. Better for the talent to ditch and find their footing elsewhere hopefully than linger in the mess that is Activision-Blizzard - which is not easy to say, because they're probably already having a hard time making ends meet for Santa Monica, not to mention individual dev teams elsewhere.
I've known several people who have worked there. A few of them GMs, a quest writer for WoW and another is a lead art director.
All of them have told me the atmosphere has changed. Old Blizzard has died and it has been replaced by another corporate machine.
They need to do the right thing and go Independent. Being Indie lately is more enjoyable gamedev experience than be a pawn of any of them AAA soulflayers.

The old team that used to run Blizzard have basically been replaced with Activision Marketing and Financial managers, and they do what they do best. Which is turn the company into a grey money making factory.
Cut pay, dismal atmosphere and most of the veterans have left the company. It's no surprise it's being run into the ground.
He leaves and forms a team with all the other people that have left and creates his own Overwatch
The visually similar, but legally entirely distinct Blackwatch team-based shooter.
I remember reading a twitter account on how their and discriminatory toxic workplace culture gave someone PTSD. I wish I could find it again.
It blows my mind that at one point Blizzard was pulling in nearly 200 million a month for WoW JUST in Subscriptions, not including any race/faction changes. Then they decided not to capitalize it all, and just let WoW stagnate with horrible content drip feeds and lack-luster everything. I think people are assuming WoW sub count is a little under 2 million now with Legion.
