I'm guessing they're going to be playing on the Scum Stage by Earache Records. Let's face it, a metal stage at something like Glasto is pointless, I don't understand why they've shoehorned it in when there's Download and Bloodstock. But the tories can get fucked so I'm all for it :v
I do love how people like my parents rave about this shit when back in their day bands did almost exactly the same shit and I'd have stood by them then too. The only shit I think is fucked from that sort of era is the Sex Pistols wearing swastikas to Stick It To Mum, same for Joy Division being named after a rape platoon in an exploitation movie.
Punk is abrasive by nature, there's so many songs about killing people who have power over you. the fact this is news is emberassing and a great misunderstanding about what the genre is about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCiYmCVikjo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56flbcUqAB8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33B711hDgEg
My mother still has a framed picture of Siouxsie Sioux (whom I also love) and yet whenever she brings up shit like this I have to remind her that Siouxsie used to perform wearing a swastika with her tits out.
Trust the BBC to make an article about this Is it just me or have they learnt a bit more pro-tory in their reporting as of recent years?
Further and further right, not just pro-Tory. They don't want to acknowledge that any other way than austerity and intolerance is possible, for example by equally promoting parties' successful policy + success in elections. You will barely hear from the Lib Dems on any programming, far less so Plaid Cymru (even on BBC Wales) and certainly not the SNP or Greens. The way every single department of the BBC argues in favour of outspoken Tory views is almost as if they were the official opposition in England and Scotland, not just in Wales.
Fat white family are pretty good tho

I've posted this before, but the increasing bias of the BBC is probably a direct result of the Tories restructuring it. The new 'unitary governing board' now consists of 6 government appointed directors, along with 8 BBC appointed directors. Considering the Tories are in charge of the BBC's purse, you can probably guess the loyalties of the 8 remaining supposedly impartial BBC appointed directors.
Similar has happened to our ABC, they recently emerged from a corruption scandal where the chairman was pressuring and threatening to fire jornualists who reported negatively on the Liberal government. Not to mention the Liberal government actively ignoring the independent and impartial board set up to remove these biases and just directly appointing board members who suited their agenda.
Punk is alive in the UK but its very much underground and you are unlikely to see a punk gig outside anything other than small privately run venues. This aint even that far out for a British punk band to say. A few weeks after the Brexit vote I was attending a small gig in Glasgow where the frontman of an English punk band had a soapbox moment about the DWP fucking over disabled people (the guy himself is a disability support worker) and the murder of Jo Cox by a guy with heavy connections to the British far right and a call of 'Kill Tory scum' was enthusiastically cheered by the audience. Britain has done this shit for a while too. The King Blues (not 'pure' punk but a fusion of punk,hip-hop and spoken word stuff) have a song called 'Let's Hang the Landlord' which is heavily censored across BBC radiostations on the very rare occasion it's played and it loses all meaning. What the fuck did Glastonbury expect lmao.
With the absolute state of UK politics, I'd be surprised if punk wasn't seeing any kind of comeback.
So fucking what? The Conservative party is a parasite, can't fault people for singing about killing a few of the leeches dragging this country further into the deep. They've certainly killed hundreds, maybe thousands indirectly through their incompetence and intentional dismantlement of the NHS, the DWP and other basic social welfare and public services. Even the lack of police resource has likely contributed to deaths and injuries, nevermind the fucking crime rate. So yeah, "Kill Tory Scum".
Before the reform, the BBC was overseen - and its Director-General appointed - by the BBC Trust, whose members were 100% government-appointed. In some ways the government arguably has less control over the BBC now that a majority of the new Board's members are appointed by the BBC, and its Director-General is thus no longer chosen solely by government appointees.
Good to know. If you could pin anything down as being responsible for the increasing lack of quality and impartiality from the BBC what would you say. I understand it’s probably a storm of factors but is there anything noticeable that has changed?
It's absolutely not you. There's a few reasons. BBC is government funded - they have an inherent bias towards the Government of the day. Cameron's BBC hierarchy / organisation changes kicked in just as the News of the World shut down, meaning a lot of his tabloid cronies from NOTW got hired. BBC leadership has pushed this failed "represent both sides" strategy hard, leading to niche viewpoints being given equal weight to serious ones. BBC is currently rowing this back a bit, but it's still fairly clear especially on Climate Change or Brexit topics.
None of those suit wearing fucks would have the stones to do what the firefighters did during the Grenfell fire. All of the emergency services did a wonderful job that night, but the firefighters walked into hell to try and save those inside, and save the building. Troops of men in heavy gear, walking into fuck knows how many degrees of heat, hauling hoses, with limited time to do what they can before the air tank strapped to their back runs out. The fact that some of them were brought to tears says a lot about what happened that night. Cuts to the emergency services cost lives but these twats are more content with lining their own pockets, and that goes for a good majority of MPs, not just the Tories, but tightening the budgets more will only make things worse.
