You can bet this comes directly from orange man, to check if they said mean things about him
Just gotta add to the security theatre.
What'd happen it the profiles were set to private or limited view to non-friends?
Do they have methods to view the full profiles? They probably do right? :/
I don't have any social media accounts.
But my split personality does
Whats a social media? never heard of it
You'll most likely get flagged in some minor way.
I'll link them my Twitter and bathe them in my shitpost
I suppose social media accounts were bound to become part of the standard background check eventually.
Sounds like commie propaganda to me
So it's literally like a job interview now, except they require you to give them your social media instead of them looking it up anyway because your CV is never detailed enough.
It's a visa application, it's always been like this. I walked into the US Embassy in Tokyo with a huge stack of family photos and shit from Facebook because if you're married to the person who's applying you're required to show proof your relationship was entered in good faith and you didn't get married to cheat the system. So pictures, any co-signed leases or agreements, etc.
The whole point is so case worker can determine the applicant is of good character, if this helps reduce the paperwork burden in an already complex, expensive and poorly documentrd process I'm all for it. I just finished apply for my wife's Visa extension, apply for the extension costs $680 and a bunch of paperwork so some chode in an office can look at the paperwork and go 'looks good to me'. The best part? You can't apply for this extension until 6 months or less before your Visa expiration, the approval process only takes about oh.... I don't know... 24 to 49 months?

So yeah this can potentially help make applying and reviewing applications at least a tiny bit easier and reduce wait. I assure you no Visa applicant cares if Bob at Department of Homeland Security sees their dank memes on Facebook.
Well foreigners, start a new Facebook account and start posting all those selfies with you and cute animals. We'll need to see at least 5 years of documented animal adoration.
Well, I log into my Facebook account like once every three years. I posted on Google+ for a little while when people pretended it was relevant but that's gone now.
Welp I guess I'd have to show them my Facepunch account. Gitmo here I come
Had to go though this last year just to transfer from a connecting flight to Canada, figured it would look better if I gave them a safe instagram account than withhold anything.
I'm calling it right now that its a slap dashed system that will be easily duped and impossible to enforce effectively.
If only Tumblr was still around.
Imagine having to submit 5 years worth of fetish blogs.
I was asked to provide a social media account when i was applying for an ESTA back in March. Gave them my Instagram account.
Dude you posted cringe! You've been denied a visa!
He said social media, not socialist media.
