I knew R* was going down the shitter, but damn, didn't expect that.
Rockstar makes some of the best games in the industry, but at what cost?
I really hope things are changing.
why would they, when their games make infinite money and get all the headlines
Public awareness is growing, and more people call for unionization every day. The single fact that the #metoo movement scared the Houser's is proof enough.
I hope this leads to an investigation by Take Two. This is the worst shit I've ever heard of in the industry. This is worse than fucking Randy Pitchford. I really hope something is done about this. In the meantime I certainly won't be applying for any jobs at Rockstar Games.
Why should the publishers give a shit how the studios are run? As far as we know publishers are also uncaring hellholes to work in, why would they take action against studios that treat their employees like shit when its the norm. Now if we saw real backlash against R* and it starting to affect the money they make, then sure. The publisher will only step in when it becomes financially necessary for them to.
This is so far beyond anything else in the industry that if I ran Take Two I'd be really scared right now. None of the overwork at EA or even the scandals at Riot Games compares to this level of widespread corporate abuse of employees.
Why would you work in the videogame industry when you hears about that kind of thing? Can't a videogame programmer also fit for a normal, software job? Passion goes above everything, but gosh darn, why would they accept that kind of treatment? It's terrible.
Because wanting to make your own dream video game is hell of a driver in the industry. It's just like the movies - everyone knows that Hollywood is full of shit, but you still want to become The Star.
I dont know, it sounds like Barerra should be fired and -
He was, over the Metoo movement, likely with some skeletons in the closet
Oh! So uh... I suppose this means this Triple-Ayy won't be improving, Lord and Savior Jim Sterling? It really does sound like a piss-poor manager was the reason why RS had the culture of fear or whatever, and honest to god I find it hard to believe that "an image" was the only reason why Barerra was fired.
I'll tell you though, I am deeply shocked to my core that Rockstar Games like to party... like rockstars though! I just would have never guessed!
Why are you the way that you are?
Jim Sterling pisses me off due to originally being an edgelord game journalist comedian (back when being an edgelord dudebro was the in thing) but now slipping to being a vaguely-edgy tri-pul-ayyy and capitalism bashing dude who plays dressup (because that's the popular thing now I guess) and continuing to be fucking clueless on how the industry works, or his fucked up standards for it. I've already discussed how he believes all games should be free-to-pay skinner boxes "Because they're pretty much like that now anyways" so lets look at this Barerra situation instead.
if nobody - NOBODY at Rockstar games was able to get a word in edgewise, not even an official complaint or the like that Barerra was a cuntbag then holy shit what kind of fucking Orwellian workplace are we talking about here? It's so Orwellian infact that I have a hard time buying it. What we're more likely looking at here are executives (Dan and Sam Howser, really) who don't really want to let him go not because "Tri-pul-ayy kid holding stacks of cash moneygrubbing evil" but because while Barerra was incredibly rough and hostile as a manger, he also produces results. Results which sadly don't translate at all into the games they make oh wait no, RDR2 was one of the best games I have played in years.
No, what likely happened was that Barerra was rightfully shitcanned due to the massive complaints that have been filing over the years (unless you are to tell me that none have been filed because ??? ?? tri-pul-ayys), because RDR2 was nearing compleation and also because of brand perception following the metoo movement (which yes, does sadly mean that Barerra might have skeletons in the closet). Unless some of Jim's complaints are about a post-Barerra Rockstar (who by the by - I'm deeply shocked about the news of them partying like rockstars and fratboys SHOCKED TO MY CORE I SAY) then I really find it hard to believe that RS isn't examining itself now that the crunch from RDR2 is over.
Why am I not surprised that R* is so full of that shit
You calling anyone clueless is a laugh riot. Then again, you're a known corporate shoe liker so why should we be surprised that you're trying to find whatever reason to discount employees coming out and telling about their work experiences and how full on bullshit the corporate structure in Rockstar is. Chances are that you've likely never stepped foot in an office building due to you being dumb enough not to recognize one. Only way to explain the level of gullible willful ignorance you're displaying.
"B-but, RDR2 was a good game " Yeah guess what, Witcher 3 is also a phenomenal game and it's build on the back of intense crunching and fuckery. So is likely every AAA game for the past how many years of this industry.
Or you're just putting up an act of being consistently stupid in your posts every time in these types of threads. In which case you should apply to your local theater.
why won't he think of capitalism's feelings

I know its hard for a libertarian to believe that corporations dont give a single shit about you or their workers, but maybe exploiting workers to get an end product while lining the pockets of higher ups is fucked morally? I dont give a shit if RDR2 was the best game of all time, it still came at the cost of a lot of worker's sanity or lives under the immense pressure of unrestricted corporate fuckery.
And I'm not really surprised after your tirade in a certain discord with saying "public healthcare is unsustainable, why dont you use your debilitating mental illness as a positive and paint WH40K figurines like i do instead".
Man you're just a liar
