New Report Suggests ‘High Likelihood of Human Civilization Coming to an End’ in 2050
The climate change analysis was written by a former fossil fuel executive and backed by the former chief of Australia's military.

A harrowing scenario analysis of how human civilization might collapse in coming decades due to climate change has been endorsed by a former Australian defense chief and senior royal navy commander.
The analysis, published by the Breakthrough National Centre for Climate Restoration, a think-tank in Melbourne, Australia, describes climate change as “a near- to mid-term existential threat to human civilization” and sets out a plausible scenario of where business-as-usual could lead over the next 30 years.
On our current trajectory, the report warns, “planetary and human systems [are] reaching a ‘point of no return’ by mid-century, in which the prospect of a largely uninhabitable Earth leads to the breakdown of nations and the international order.”
Spratt and Dunlop’s 2050 scenario illustrates how easy it could be to end up in an accelerating runaway climate scenario which would lead to a largely uninhabitable planet within just a few decades.
“A high-end 2050 scenario finds a world in social breakdown and outright chaos,” said Spratt. “But a short window of opportunity exists for an emergency, global mobilization of resources, in which the logistical and planning experiences of the national security sector could play a valuable role.”
Can we start doing something about global warming now? K thx.
I wouldn't mind the sweet release of death, but not like this
and people are shocked that i don't like the idea of having kids lmao
So be it.
And only then will we realize we cannot eat money.
But what about the money?
Y'know I want to complete my education and hopefully somehow be of use when it comes to combating this whole fuckstorm but by the same token articles like this just make me want to lay down and stare at the ceiling.
It's so damn hard to focus on anything worthwhile with all this looming on the horizon.
I'm fucking stoked.
I've lived my entire almost 30 years on this earth with the non stop chant of "Climate Change is coming". My whole life. 30 years of hearing about it.
And for that entire time, nothing has changed or been done or altered our course.
We don't deserve this.
But we fucking earned it.
If anyone thought the European migrant crisis was bad, just wait for when 1 billion people are fleeing the effects of global warming.
is this bad
It's going to be Blade Runner at the absolute best.
You may as well just accept your fate and keep on truckin and hope that you can pool up enough resources/make enough smart decisions/have enough luck where you can live in a nice part of human society once the shit hits the fan. We're too short-sighted as a species to understand what it means to not make decisions that won't fuck us 100, 200, 300 years in the future. It's just not in our culture, and it's certainly not in our biology.
And the sad thing is, I feel like nothing will be done till near its too late because of big companies and other people doing so much to hurt the environment as well.
And not to start a political thing here but. It doesn't help we have a presidential leader who said global warming and other stuff isnt real and wiped the website out for global warming.
Really no point in letting this wear you down mentally when its mostly up to corporate pollution to end it. Enjoy what you have while you have, make smart decisions and vote well.
hey can we make caring for the environment a meme? maybe companies would start doing something, not out of good will but as a desperate attempt to reach the young crowd
nice to know that news outlets believe it too now
I had to stop playing The Division 2 because all I could think of after hours of scrounging supplies and killing looter gangs/PMCs-turned-bandits was how I need to buy like $30,000 worth of canned food and stuff it all in my basement and then get guns so nobody can take my stuff when the lights and phones go out so I can live out the end of civilization alone with my books and stacks of canned food and rainwater barrels.
That's not a pleasant mindset to have lying in the dark trying to fall asleep. But it's increasingly justified by reality.
I have a friend who's suffering from a genetic condition. He is currently my age (23) and has a life expectancy of about 50 years. He says it's pretty much a blessing at this point, not a curse, because of these kind of reports. I'm starting to agree with him.
how did humans end up getting this retarded
the world has felt like a parody of itself since the 2016 election and now all of those post apocalyptic movies/shows feel like they might actually become a reality where people are beating the shit out of eachother for water
If TVs and movies survive somebody is going to look at those movies and cry knowing we were well aware of what we were doing.
Hello existential dread, I almost completely forgot about you.
I'm so close to being able to mentally make amends with this and try my best to live the best life that I can have with my loved ones but God hearing news like this is like seeing death holding a countdown outside your window.
I think I need to go like down
I don't believe that Human civilization will come to an end by 2050 by any stretch. In fact we are taking rather big strides, in the west at least, towards a brighter tomorrow. Battery technology, nuclear power, etc are things that will bring us a brighter tomorrow. While I don't have enough information to form a concrete conclusion, its silly to say that the west will fail at adaptation which is beginning to have its gears turning.
It is however of vital importance that we pressure politicians and even corporations themselves around the world to further this change. Besides, why have a fuck ton of money and power if your family line ends and your money becomes worthless in the mid century, hmm?
I do think war will continue within North Africa and the Middle East. Perhaps China will have its mandate of heaven strike again out of the blue. For now, while our future seems dark, it is also very bright. We are just beginning our paths to transcending to the stars and beyond.
Hundreds of corporations committed a capital crime against humanity.
Climate Change is the biggest issue humanity currently faces and we've already passed the point where it is going to have a big impact, but it's also very hyperbolic to say it will cause human civilisation to come to an end in 30 years. Extreme arguments like these tend to cause climate change denier people to have ammunition to deny there's anything to worry about at all.
Why dont we have a month dedicated to fixing climate change as big as pride month
Yeah sure some people will end up thinking its just as bad as those satanic homosexuals but at least it has the chance of getting even more goddamn awareness than we already have, cause god knows the human race needs more awareness and caring to the issue than it already has
It's always comforting to hear stuff like this. I appreciate your optimism and I hope I can have some myself.
My anxiety takes over really bad when I read articles like this and I have to sort of remind myself that it's not an instant death, it's not that on January 1st 2050 the Earth will just explode or something. Are things going to get really fucking dire and bad? Of course I'm not in denial, but I have to at least have faith that while it's too late to stop the worst from coming I have to keep trying to soften the the blow
My friend and I have been planning for such doomsday scenarios.
I know it might seem drastic, but I would advise the same. Sadly, the end might be near and it's best to prepare.
I would also advise to do everything you can to not be part of the problem and also help solve it while we still can.
Dont accept mediocrity or skepticism from others regarding climate change. Always think and ask "At what cost?" when it comes to anybody debating against actions to prevent cataclysmic climate change.
This is actually part of why people don't take climate change seriously, but took the Mayan 2012 thing seriously. The latter had a very definitive date: December 21, 2012. Climate change is a continuous process, so there's no singular, discrete point to say "we're fucked." We're just going to continue boiling ourselves alive like the frog because we're too near-sighted to see past the present.
