So you buy a monitor that's the price of a second hand car and it doesn't even come with basic mounting gear? Christ.
I wonder if the $999 monitor stand exists just to make the $199 vesa mount look like good value.
I like how fast he went through the price of the stand to make sure the crowd didn't have enough time to react on it
Why even list the prices of accessories during the press conference, it just looks bad.
Their dipshit customers will buy anything sold to them, even if it'll only last a year and lacks basic features
I have lost faith in humanity.
They not realize that 99.9% of consumers are broke as fuck?
They're marketing it to weirdo hipsters that have less self control with their money than an alcoholic gambler
They're marketing it towards media production houses and enthusiasts, the technology is superb if partially unecessary. The stand & mount are a joke, but the technology behind the screen is superbly impressive.
Apple fans impressed at the literal first feature every device has
th-thanks
except (until now) every device other than apple's

iPad also had this official accessory for almost like 10 years
The USB adapter could be used with keyboards, audio devices and even had a rudimentary support for USB drives
Really though, why does the iPad Pro have no fucking IO
What if you want to connect your thumb drive and charge the thing at the same time?
You really only need to sell to the .1% to make a profit.
All those rich kids got their parents money to spend after all
This kind of shit is never targetted to the average consumer.
Case in point at my company they hand out shit like this to me and other developers due to stability and just because they can afford it.
Has it occurred to you that you (and most of us) might not be the target audience?
These are workstations. They are primarily bought by enterprise level customers. They compete with things like the HP Z8 or Dell 7920 workstations (but more oriented to the creative industry).
Nonetheless, the pricing on that stand is still hilarious, but such things are not unheard of in this niche market.
Rich kids buy iMac Pros not Mac Pros. Yep, they are different.
Well, Apple got the video taken down for copyright. Streisand effect go go go
it's funny because I definitely know one or two people who would have no qualms dropping that kind of cash on it...
The obvious question is, if they wanted to charge $999 for a fucking stand so bad, why didn't they just make the monitor a grand more expensive and then offered a cheaper alternative for those who prefer to use their own mounting solution? They woulda gotten the same money out of it but it would've buried the whole issue of a stand that costs a thousand dollars much better.
Not that it really matters because the companies that would be looking to buy something like this for workstation use (editing comes to mind) don't actually give a shit and will probably just buy the VESA mount instead, probably two monitors while they're at it.
Apple you bunch of pussies
