So I went to my GP last week because I had a weird lump appear on my hand. I thought it was a cyst, the doc thinks it's a piece of bone. To confirm it, I was sent for an x-ray on my hand. I'm so fucking glad that I live in a country where I can have things like this checked and not have to worry about the cost. If I were in the USA, I wouldn't bother because I'd be scared of the bill at the end of it, especially considering I'll probably need surgery.
I love the NHS. It has its flaws, sometimes it doesn't perform as well as it could because it's being strangled by budget cuts, sometimes it's difficult to get appointments. But I'll take the NHS and its flaws any day of the week than have an American healthcare system.
NHS saved my brothers life when he had a malignant brain tumour before his first birthday. His childhood sucked, he was in hospital day in, day out. But because of the NHS, he had a childhood and has an adulthood. These politicians need to stop gutting the best thing about being British.
