Hi guys I look for some method to protect server content. (for ex. materials, models)
Some assumptions?
How do you think that would work? Players need to download the materials and models to see them and use them while playing on the Server. And by doing that they have them locally on their own PC.
Why are so many people concerned with People stealing clientside stuff latley?
I'm actually curious for curiosity's sake on this one, but is there a way to encrypt the files once they're downloaded to the client? I know it would require gmod some way to unencrypt these files to be read so the client could actually see/load the content, which could also be reverse engineered - but I'm not very knowledgable about previous versions of Gmod and/or if any methods like this have been attempted before?
SUP made it. I don't know the steps how it processing but encrypted content downloading to DATA. After this it probably decrypted into materials and models. Also the encrypted content look like GMA but probably with protect elements.
Nothing is protected when it comes to client sided stuff, anything that has to be downloaded to a clients computer or is based from a workshop is open to anyone downloading, editing and claiming credit. There's software out there that will download the entire FTP's directory of anything client side, including your addons folder all lua code the lot, anything that isn't set to serverside.
Client can do anything it wants to when you send him files.
Game requires to decrypt your models and materials to use.
Even if you delete decrypted files, they can save the cached materials
No one on gmod cares enough to steal some addon and reupload it as their own. People find out pretty quick that its not theirs, and you can report it.
Unlike YouTube Copyright/Report system, valves steam report feature actually lets a real person see it, and when its obviously stolen, it gets deleted
