Is it neccessary to download that much for a game patch? Are differential compressed patches not possible witch steam? I think of software like xdelta3.
Do some research into SteamPipe Content System. For the majority of games on Steam, Steam handles the entirety of game patching Most documentation for it is behind the Steamworks partner site though
Then it should be optimal how steam makes ist. The update must be enormous this time, almost two DVD SL disks in size. I try to compress this thing, but it takes forever. I'm just curious if the update filesize could be smaller.
When a game does an update it does not always add new files to the game ontop of already existing ones. Some are replaced
I played it before for an hour or so, then computer crashed after hang while i tried to exit the game with Windows error code (from event log)  0x00000133 (0x0000000000000001, 0x0000000000001e00, 0xfffff8072bf6e350, 0x0000000000000000).
It was unusually large this month because of the change to the newer version of Unity (the underlying game engine).
8 gigs of Ram can hardly run anything these days
I jsut wish that people would realize both CPU cycles and RAM are like time.... you cannot "Save them up for later"......... you pay for them feed them & cool them..... they better bloody well pay their way and work for a living.......
