Canada has the right to Annex parts of America.
Nobody has the right to annex parts of anybody else.
what about parts that were previously annexed from somebody else if you read up youll find that this accounts for a large amount of borders in the world's status quo
I don't think they were being serious.
I am about to annex your lunch, nerd
Still doesn't justify an annexation. If the people living in these lands wish to re-draw the border they should vote as such via referendum like civilized people, not be annexed by the country that used to control those lands. It's a large part of why we fought a couple of world wars. Especially the second one. Civilized governments don't just go around annexing whatever the fuck they want to.
what if they refuse to hold a referendum wouldnt the only way to force them to do so be to momentarily occupy the land, anyway?
the USA has the right to annex British Columbia VANCOUVER OR WAR, BABY I'm sensing massive historical parallels between Nazi Germany and modern day Israel
You can have the right to annex my ass.
If you re-criminalize weed you're gonna have an insurgency on your ass that makes the Bubba Militia's masturbation fantasies look like a Teletubbies episode. First we'll send the hockey rioters after you. And if that's not enough to send you packing, we'll make you ride Skytrain at rush hour. But can just one weekend go by without the US doing something internationally stupid?
Don't Arabs in Israel have the right to vote? Which means that, horrible ethical implications aside, annexing any amount of the West Bank or Gaza Strip is a strategically bad idea if Israel's right wing wants to stay in power?
Depends how easy it is for them to vote
Yes. It's complicated but essentially the TLDR version of why israel hasn't fully annexed the west bank is because of all the Palestinians living there and because it's being used as a buffer zone against Jordan. Israel is currently facing a huge demographic problem where Arabs are out reproducing Jews (except for ultraorthodox) and that if there's an Arab majority, Israel, as a Jewish state, will no longer be a Jewish state. Accepting the over 2 million Palestinians that currently live in the West Bank will tip that scale and cause the Arab majority to happen. Israel only wants to annex the Jewish settlements in the West bank and then leave the rest of the West bank to the Palestinian Authority until new settlements pop up, annex those, etc. Another issue is that if West Bank Palestinians gain citizenship, it'll be harder to filter out hamas/militant fatah Palestinians and Israel will lose their current intelligence structure in the West Bank which is legal because Palestinians arent considered Israeli citizens. Currently, the only West Bank Palestinians that can gain Israeli citizenship are those that live in East Jerusalem and a lot of them choose not to get the citizenship.
Boo hoo Israel can’t keep its apartheid ethnostate if they actually treat Palestinians as human beings by giving them equal rights and fair representation in government.
They will get equal rights and fair representation if they become Israeli citizens. Israeli Arabs already have that and they are essentially Palestinians who ended up on the right side of the border. Remember, I gave you the tldr version of things, shit is way more complicated than I portrayed it as.
While I acknowledge that the situation is complicated, the ultimate end result is a uneven strife that ends in far more Palestinians displaced and dead than Israelis, and certain state actors pushing forth this conflict without major repercussions to themselves.
Yeah, they'll get fair representation, but the government will make sure they remain a minority either way so it's not like that's going to make much of a difference.
You're absolutely correct - under the Charter of the United Nations, the basic 'constitution' of international law, no country has the right to annex the territory of any other country The only legal exception is Canada, which has the right to annex parts of America
Sounds like you literally just said they can't become Israeli citizens.
I meant in the case of Israeli annexation of the West Bank where Israel would have to give them citizenship.
I remember him arguing years ago that Israel had no interest in annexing further land lol
Wow that makes it so much better.
petition to form one massive North American superstate whose capital is located in Columbia (Formerly known as Washington, D.C.)
I think its pretty telling that being outproduced by a minority is a "huge demographic problem"
