Not exactly a surprise but I hope it leans more towards the RPG side than Sekiro does.
Isn't Sekiro full on not an RPG? Sounds to me like by calling it an 'Action RPG', they're saying it definitely will.
"Whole lotta fuckall, please get excited".
Have to wait for gameplay first, to be honest.
Sekiro has skill trees. That's it as far as RPG elements are concerned. I would not call Sekiro an RPG.
People had been asking for From to make a standard action game since Dark Souls 1. Then they do that and immediately all anyone says is "I hope their next game is a RPG", as though that isn't all they've done for 10 years.
That fucking music holy shit
I did want From to make a standard action game. And then they did. And I loved it. Then I realized I had absolutely no desire to replay it because every playthrough is exactly the same. Now I appreciate the fact that Dark Souls and Bloodborne were RPGs way more than I previously did.
I can live without gameplay reveal, because I trust From enough to make gameplay incredible.
It's disappointing that the trailer didn't reveal much, but I guess the leaks ruined everything. Could you imagine the reaction to this trailer if the Miyazaki / GRRM collab was kept under wraps?
Hope there's customization in this game, skipped over Sekiro because I couldn't fashion souls it. Hoping for multiplayer too because I always enjoyed co-oping Dark Souls.
Given the complete lack of demonstrated gameplay I am going to make an educated guess that this is Bad Rats 4
There's going to be according to an interview with Miyazaki.
Wilkinson: Do you believe this title will turn out to be a very From-like and challenging game?
Miyazaki: Yes, I do. The importance we place on the joy the player experiences through overcoming challenges will be the same as it is in our other titles. I believe it will prove to be a very satisfying experience.
Earlier I had said that this title focuses more heavily on RPG elements. This title will include a wide variety of weapons, magic, and ways to engage enemies, that make it possible to provide users with a style of gameplay and strategy that suits them.
Even when compared to the Dark Souls series, I believe this title will provide even more variety in the ways for players to overcome challenges and tweak their tactics when facing enemies.
Wilkinson: Will Elden Ring contain character customization elements like in Dark Souls, or will it be similar to Sekiro in that there is a fixed protagonist that the player controls?
Miyazaki: Yes, it will contain character customization elements.
Similar to the Dark Souls series, Elden Ring allows players to design and control their own unique character. As I said earlier, this title puts a heavy focus on RPG elements, and we thought this approach would best suit that focus.

Consider me on board
Daddy Miyazaki does it again <3
Seriously can't wait to dig in to this game. Sekiro, as others in this thread have said, has little to no replay value, but Bloodborne is my favorite game of all time. The heavier RPG focus here will undoubtedly make it a blast.
Could they have named the game a more generically fantasy title
The logo practically has the same font as Jackson's Lord of the Rings lmao
