awkward...
So did the Epic exclusivity.
Good luck floundering for a player base with Epic guys, Mordhau is probably gonna beat this in almost every way.
Friendly reminder that Torn Banner mistreated one of their lead devs responsible for what made Chivalry great, and the quality of their games since then has suffered for it. They basically left Chivalry to slowly fade into obscurity with the exploits, release a sequel after their other projects fell flat, and they have the nerve to make it an EGS exclusive? I don't see this competing with Mordhau any time soon.
This goes beyond striking while the iron is cold. This is getting your first strike in (Chivalry 1) and having someone else come along, take your iron. (Mordhau) Now you're beating an empty anvil.

Looks noticeably worse in term of quality and feels nearly as stoic and awkward as Chivalry 1, remains to be seen what will be of the gameplay itself (aka helicopter potential and all that garbage)
Cant wait for them to sell out again and do another deadliest warrior title. By the time this comes out Mordhau should have even more content so.. Sorry but fuck you chiv. You showed up 2 days late to the party.
Lmao cya
Oh, Chivalry, right, that game that's based off a Half-Life 2 mod and built more or less its entire fanbase and reputation on Steam. EGS Exclusive, huh? Lmao.
I remember looking for melee combat games a while back, finding Mordhau as this tiny, obscure title still in development, then seeing it absolutely explode on release. That was a surprise. I had no idea Chivalry became so disappointing to people, nice to see Mordhau's success is apparently deserved
Only way I could see this taking off is if mordhau devs dropped off the face of the earth and we lost all support, or maybe if this had a decent SP campaign. The animations in the trailer don't even look that great either
As a long time Chivalry fan (playing since early AoC), I honestly dont expect alot of people to bother playing this turd. I know I won't. But if there's one thing I'm hyped for is to hear more medieval battlefield music from my man Ryan Buckley!
This looks so bad compared to Mordhau lmao
https://youtu.be/DV_PzRb1pLk The egs deal had to have taken place before mordhau exploded for sure.
lol this is dead on arrival what with EGS exclusivity combined with Mordhau's existence.
Don't forget about Mirage. It's a damn shame too, considering it looks like they're adding features that Chiv 1 originally should have had.
Striking when your iron has been repossessed.
Chivalry was a fun game, I admit. It had appropriate levels. Nice combat gameplay and most of it was relatively balanced at the start. It really took effort, and I mean they really had to fucking grind effort into fucking it up. The mistreatment of their lead dev and basically ignoring everything that was happening in Chivalry really bled the game dry. Most matches devolved into people who ran exploits and ran around as ballerinas which made the game explicitly unfun. I kept at it when this change begun and left soon after; nothing good would come of it. A year later I booted it up to see that, well... Nothing changed. Chivalry was put into the trashbin long ago and coming out of it as an EGS exclusive has destroyed whatever little respect I had for the game. Fuck Vanguard + Claymore exploiters.
ooooff that's some bad timing and decisions. Chivalry had the advantage of being a one-of-a-kind game which kept it popular even through the late dev bullshit times UNTIL Mordhau came along. Now with Mordhau and the EGS exclusivity I don't see this working, placing an online-only game that requires a lot of players per server in a store that's overall worse than Steam, whose population is really just Fortnite players AND has a bad reputation to boot is just a weird fucking decision which leads me to believe this EGS deal very likely happened before Mordhau.
For years this has been the state of combat - people run into combat with a shield on their back, stare up and then reverse-overhead people with fisheye field of view to decapitate people standing behind them. And since that exploit came out, the additions and fixes to the game consisted of... paid cosmetics. Wonderful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rY10FWqZxUI
Yeah I dunno about this. I've put in some work in Mordhau after chivalry leaving a sour taste in my mouth and I dont see how they're convincing me that chivlary 2 is gonna be any better than mordhau. Plus mordhau is so delicately balanced that I'm never mad when I die. Mordhau is just fantastic. And on Steam.
I'm glad to see this have a sequel, I'm sure this and Mordhau will have an interesting competi- >epic games exclusive hah
Oof. This is what happens when you abandon your game to an absolutely atrocious meta and someone else swoops in and fixes it in their own game. All Mordhau is really lacking is interesting Frontline objectives. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/238143/9756ebee-7020-4f90-ae1d-749cf9ace99f/image.png
Jesus, that trailer looks so sad in comparison to Mordhau's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFpoDlH6Sxs
Chivalry 2 is even much less appetizing when you read first hand accounts about much an asshole their president is supposedly: https://mordhau.com/forum/topic/13883/no-chivalry-ex-chiv-dev-post-mortem/ (Original post from Polycount, but that requires an account and is probably taken down)
Does anyone know what engine this is using? The graphics and EGS exclusivity make Unreal a no-brainer but it definitely looks like that telltale Source clunkiness.
Chivalry 1 was on Unreal Engine 3. The original mod was Source, but Chivalry was never on Source. It makes sense for this to be on UE4 as a result, and since UE4 is just UE3 heavily upgraded. The clunkiness is by design, not as a result of being on Source. (it's rarely an engine's fault if a game feels clunky or weird)
Their website says Unreal Engine 4.
