hahah, just announced on the PC Gaming Show. The standalone Dota Auto Chess by the original devs is heading to EGS. https://twitter.com/Wario64/status/1138146652659675137
Guess we now know why they couldn't work things out with Valve.
So basically the Dota2 mod version will still stay the most popular version, unless the Dota2 Standalone or League Standalone do better.
Yeah, makes sense. Totally didn't think Epic would snatch it. But after Riot announcing their own, should have seen it coming.
Well, Valve sniped Dota 2 before Blizzard. So I guess this is only fair.
Won't this cause licensing issues if Valve owns the Dota 2 brand?
This is just Auto Chess, without Dota and its lore and characters.
What the hellis auto chess? To me it sounds like a game that's gonna play itself, so not that fun
then look into it It's not a game that plays itself at all. Your units do the fighting without you, but that's about it. It's all about the units you get, the synergies they have, and the luck you have.
It's really like those auto playing mobage games except instead of having to farm for 2000+ hours and spend $5000+ for top tier units and other min/max number crunching shit, it's simplified and shortened down to a more last man standing competitive mode.
Not gonna lie, to me auto chess looks boring as fucked but for people actually into this sorta thing I can see how the minds behind it gleefully accepting an injection of tainted epic money for exclusivity could piss off fans and sour hopes for any future products from these developers. At this point I feel like anyone accepting Epic's money gets put on a list of what developers gamers should avoid just by association alone, doesn't matter if a publisher forced them into the deal or they accepted it themselves..
I think there is a very real argument to be made here that tiny indie devs or in this case modders who want to make their own game should be given a pass for this stuff. This is no different than any other publisher funding an indie game. Is Epic scummy? Absolutley. Are AAA devs that take Epic's money scummy? Absolutely. But in this case, it looks to me like it's some modders trying to make it with their own game. I hate Epic but they've might've been the difference between this game happening or not.
Damn it if I was angry and was a Valve dev I'd say: "wanna get on Epic? fine, but you'll have to redo your whole game because we're not supporting you killing PC gaming"
I chuckled when one guy described it as a cuckold rts.
I feel like this might actually be the thing that lights a fire under Valve's ass, or at least, I hope it is. Now Epic is actively fighting them on their home turf and challenging their IP. Also potentially challenging Riot and Blizzard too if they start moving toward MOBAs.
From what I understand, it's like fucking Clash Royale. Easy to monetize game mode where you can end up making people pay for the best pieces to place down, then watch it play out as you drool. Aka, absolute shit.
Oh yeah, now we need Blizzard's version.
Modern Warfare styled autochess.
And how can I forget Hi-Rez? They definitely want in on this.
I'm sure many would appreciate it if you folks actually take a look at how the game and strategy function before saying it is shit. It is ok if you don't like the genre but misinterpreting it out of ignorance always make you look silly.
Why such defensive language? It's safe to say the design of the game is prime material for the casino model the biggest slimiest publishers love so much. We, players, on the other hand, don't like it. What's silly about that?
This is your immediate assumption? It says a lot about how little you know.
I mean, I played the game, but sure, I might know nothing.
Autochess, so far, has self-contained progression sessions. That means you don't bring your pieces, everybody starts from 0, shares the same overall pool, and everything resets once a game is over. Monetization opportunities are far from the shit that Clash games pull.
If the end product turns out to be okay even if the design could be used for shitty business model then whatve you got to complain about?
Dear god you have 11 agrees when all you’ve done is just fabricate a fucking lie. No you can’t buy pieces would basic research kill you before you just lie
They had Paragon and killed it.
So basically you haven't played the game and your understanding seems to be pulled out of thin air but im pretty sure its bad because it's related to dota!
So a mod of a game that was snatched by Valve to become it's own IP now has a mod that is being snatched by Epic to create it's own IP?
Epic isn't owning this though, they're just publishing. The original team already made their standalone IP from the mod for mobile. This is that.
