Personally I joined back two years or so before I started high school - someone had shown me this place to look up some SVNtortoise hashes or whatever (never really got around to understand why I need those, but hey) for some Gmod mods a while before, and one day I just created an account. Back then I did a lot of live action role playing, and made shitty cell phones movies. Started out getting banned a couple of times. Then found a bit of a home in the Hardware and software section, which is where I learned to build computers. I don't how many builds I've thrown together on newegg for people, but it's probably more than a hundred. At this point I was going through high school and spent waaaaay too much time on FP in class (everyone brought their own laptops "for note taking" - maybe 85% were on facebook, 10% doing real work, and then me on Facepunch), but hey shit worked out regardless, and after high school I ended up at a publishing company writing about software for a little while. Nowadays I'm in my 4th year of medical school, gonna be a real doctor in probably 3 years or so. Way back I posted a bit in the POY thread, so if you frequented that thread, and you one day see a sort of familiar mug in a Danish ER, it's probably time to run. Cheers, write your own piece underneath.
Joined in 2007, just graduated elementary school. Came across Garry's Mod thanks to that Concerned webcomic during Summer vacation, and in turn Facepunch Studios. I couldn't do any online transactions at the time, nor could I even afford anything so I started a thread asking how to get add-ons on a "retail copy" aka pirated Gmod where I faked a scan of the retail copy with a Gmod screenshot edited in MS Paint. People obviously saw through it and started waiting for me to get banned. Got scared, laid low and made another account a few days later. (Surprisingly my original account actually wasn't banned lol). I lurked for a good few months, and learned some English along the way thanks to Smartness and how strict the forums were. I started to participate bit by bit on various threads, and found some friends through the Fast Threads chat thread groups like Fast Anime and WAYT. FP helped me a lot in learning a bunch of computer stuff on top of giving me a bit grasp in English, which surprisingly helped me a lot in high school as well. Met a lot of good friends online and got me through some tough times irl. Even got a legit copy of Garry's Mod and most Source games at the time thanks to friends gifting them for me. FP pretty much became my mainstay online community throughout the years, graduated high school, then college as with a bachelor's degree in IT, and even to my first job at a call center for 2 years. Currently working as a freelance video editor and copywriter. Still have a lot of close friends from here I talk to each day.
I joined somewhere in 2007 after finding out about Garry's Mod on YTMND, while I was in high school. From 2007 to like 2009, I mostly lurked and downloaded GMod crap. Started posting at that point, mostly really shitty posts where I would miss the point of the entire thread and basically made myself the laughing stock. That's okay, I was like 16 or so after all. Got gold membership at some point and became somewhat active in the old GMF clique. Sometimes these people weren't so nice, but I have fond memories of playing games with them. Around that time (2011-2012) we played GMF TTTBBB, which I have super fond memories of and still hope to play again some day. Eventually however, this fizzled out. I started posting more on Facepunch at the end of 2011, when I entered uni for game programming. A lot of my posts were contained within the programming threads, this was when I got acquainted with a lot of programmer folk here (e.g. Maurice, Layla, Geel). Still posted in GMF a lot. Sometime either 2012 or 2013, JBep3 opened up for FP testers. Had a lot of fun with it. It's still in development and you should check it out. Over the years I started posting a lot less. Most of my posts these days are contained within SH. Some of them can be bad, usually it's cause I'm having a bad day or am under a bunch of stress. I still visit this forum daily for all the news, and I'll occasionally check out random threads. Nowadays I'm working in game dev, the latest game I've done work on is Marvel's Avengers (due to legal reasons I cannot engage in discussion about it though ).

I just remembered back when you had a custom title, do you happen to still have those chiptunes.
Yup! Here you go: https://unhandso.me/index.php/s/CaUgdKEIYKPU7uL
Neat! Been looking for these again for a while now. Thanks!
When I first joined FP I was not doing much. My friend, who was a TF2 modder/item creator, told me about FP and I got convinced to join it before the Invasion Update. My first screenshot was an image of a Spy pointing a gun at himself in the TF2 funny screenshot thread. Over the years I learned more and more about the site, its members, and many more things. As of now I'm just a shitposter who likes writing stuff up and talking with others .
Joined in 2005, got absolutely hooked on Garry's Mod and got really into modding in general, which was the driving force for me learning game art and eventually going to Uni for a game design course. I have no idea what I'd be doing now without the help I got over the years from people on the forums to learn 3Dsmax and Source modding. Had a lot of fun here over the years but generally stopped posting as much after one of the forum wipes, although I still lurked around here quite a lot.
Joined in 2009, so I would have been in my first year at college. Back then I was really ill, and about a year later I would be diagnosed with Crohn's disease. I would have spent all my free time then playing videogames (Lots of halo with the FP community) and browsing the internet because I would have been too sick to want to leave the house. After 4 years at college I then spent 2 years unemployed because of my illness, and literally spent day after day playing world of warcraft and browsing the web. I eventually got a bit better, well enough to get a job, which is still the same job I'm in now. A bit over a year ago I ended up having to have surgery for the crohn's and ended up having my colon removed and getting an ileostomy for life. Thankfully though it's made a massive difference and has made me a lot healthier. It it wasn't for FP all those years of being stuck at home ill would have been mind numbingly boring. I probably spent thousands of hours on this site reading funny threads and finding new videos, all the while having my mind taken away from my bad health, so thanks guys.
was a dumb lil kid when i joined, now im a big dumb man
I used to be into serious RP in garry's mod. someone in the community I was in, infusion gaming, linked facepunch and I thought heck why not make an account, I've heard about facepunch before. then I got bored of garry's mod, ended up buying sethhack and was publicly called out on this forum and I ended up getting a comment from garry on my steam profile, stating that I was a cheater. which I felt honored by of course so I left it there as a sign of one of my great achievements in life. FP introduced me to so many cool things. I met someone here who ended up becoming the best friend I've ever had even though we never actually met in person. my interest for programming started with garry's mod and the torch kept going with the developers sub forum. I lurked the "what are you working on" thread for literally 6 years before I finally gathered the willpower to start programming myself. haven't been long and I haven't achieved much in life because of it but I'm absolutely loving it. let's not forget the community too. I would've been a completely different person without facepunch and I think for the worse. the strict moderation really helped me mature as a person and as a byproduct of the strict moderation, all of you guys helped me mature too. this has always been my go-to place on the internet so it's a shame it's disappearing.
Currently waiting for a pizza to cook
I was 13 when I signed up. Been through school, university and now couple of years in software development. This year I purchased a house on a mortgage with my partner, and got a cute little sausage dog. FP is the only online community I'm a part of at the moment, so I'll miss the site, people and history when it's gone.
I grew up loving Half-Life and playing mods for it so when HL2 came out I stumbled across GMod (I think 7 but when 9 came out I played it constantly). I still remember the first time I joined a sandbox server and tried to figure out how to change my playermodel into Barney. Then 10 got annouced and I was only 13 in '06 so I didn't really have money so I was mad I had to pay for it lol. I played tons of Zombie Survival and RP servers over the years then ended up joining facepunch in '07 to ask about to Resident Evil 4 models I think. Been here ever since. Now I'm engaged to be married and talking about buying a house and having kids of my own. I grew up here and It's one of my last real connections to the childhood experiences I had online so I'm gonna miss this place when it's gone. Shout-out to NoxiousNet, Pulsar Effect, CCCP, TWB, TheChillZone, AsteriskGaming and any other communities I spent my childhood on.
Registered here after my brother, over 10 years ago. I used to be your not-so-average super-nerd clocking at least 80 hours per 2 weeks of playing time, even more at times. When not playing the computer, sleeping or attending schools, I would browse and post on facepunch for quite an insane amount, getting banned over 40 times as well over the years. Nowadays, I'm still a super-nerd but clocking only 0-4 hours of playing time per every two weeks. And I enjoy every minute of it. Still a super-nerd who is merely working for money, got a small mortgage, an apartment, and a relationship with a cute girl who I fear that she loves me. No degree under my name yet at 27 years, which concerns me, but otherwise happy with my life. Sad that Facepunch is coming to an end, though.
Was 12 when I joined, so was still in elementary school. Had no real friends, and used all of my time to play video games or browse facepunch. I'm 26 now, working as a frontend developer, and married. Really don't have time for gaming anymore, as I spend my scarce spare time on programming or drone racing.
Registered here after being introduced by my brother to Garry's Mod when I was 11. I'm pretty sure Gmod9 was released around that time. I thought it was cool that you could do things with physics. At that age your imagination is endless. That was over 14 years ago. Since then, I finished primary school, secondary school, dropped out of college, have spent almost 9 years doing software development and have been in a relationship for 8 years. For the last 14 years I have seen my lowest lows and my highest highs but through it all I have always considered myself a member of this forum. I also have this forum to thank for my career, as creating maps and being involved in the mapping subforum gave me the knowledge and interest to begin learning programming.
I haven't made a registration back in OldPunch because Lurker obviously but I do carry memories... Way underage at the time, I barely spoke English. I always envied people who were in the Personal Skins Threads, mostly Kali and NinjaNUB... It was a way simpler time when all I worried about was playing Sandbox on NoxiousNet and being part of a fake "G-Man Team" group... Xantos was obviously a big deal at the time, everyone wanted to be with him or play a part in a LitFuse machinima. <FAST FORWARD TO 2019> Now I am here, registered only in the last months... Obviously nailed my English, learned how to work with Blender, Hammer, contributed to the creation of PAC3, and GOT LITERAL CANCER. Discovered loads of drama, additional drama, and why the DUMB rating is so trendy. Sometimes I still want to go back to the old days, mostly because when you are stupid life just seems easier.
Yo my dude. I was trying to remember your username. Thanks so much on all the work on the android app. It was a really good way to browse FP, and I appreciate all the work you put into it.
Thanks man, it means a lot! It was a really fun project to work on. And I've actually started to work on a KO app, which should be way easier, and faster, as there is an actual API.
I joined 9 years ago. I was in middle school when I joined. There was a good old friend I made on steam and we played gmod together a lot. He told me about the forums from the guys who made gmod and told me to check them out. So I did and I started looking around and I found LMAO pics. Thats when I started getting on daily. I have been getting on daily for almost 9 years. I barely posted, but I was still here. Now im a college graduate with a bachelors in computer info systems and im about to start my first real career job. Its been a wild ride everyone, and thank you River for showing me the forums.
I remember finding FP on a link from the TF2 wiki (I started getting more into gaming after LEGO Universe and Minecraft), and I began browsing it more and more, so I eventually registered. I was in middle school at the time, a 12-year old kid being made fun of because I was the only one still playing with LEGO. From there on, it was mostly lurking, but I only got more active in posting after Newpunch. Throughout these 7 years, I moved to another country, found a more supportive group of friends and my current gf, and now I'll start university in September/October. Overall FP really helped me in becoming the person I am now - had it not been like that, I'd probably be an edgy memer kid/incel or something like that. I do regret not being active enough in the old days, and that's something I hope I don't repeat in KO.
I was a 16-year-old babby back in '05, I think I just finished upper elementary school and was going to start High School after the summer. Now I am a technical specialist for TETRA-networks and I mainly travel all over Finland and teach police, army, border security, hospitals etc. how to program and use TETRA-radios. I do pretty much everything else our company does as well, but my main job is the one I described.
I was 13 when I joined back in seventh grade, almost 19 now and I'm graduating high school and afraid of what the world has in store for me. Gonna definitely miss this place.
Joined in 2009 as 12 year old looking for help regarding a gmod9 addon, as buying digital games was still such a weird concept at the time and I didn't think my parents would buy me Gmod, which of course didn't have a retail release. It was about that weird dupe precursor tool, SVN or something? You could spawn stuff other people have built and scripted. Now I am a 22 year old bachelor of economics, and about to start my masters degree in finance.
In '05 I was studying English as a dumb 14 year old. In '19 I'm teaching dumb 14 year olds English. Interesting how that turned out.
TortoiseSVN. Advanced Duplicator 2. Back in the Bronze Era when Wiremod, Wiremod+, PHX, Stargate, and AdvDupe had to be downloaded through the SVN.
As I mentioned in the OP, TortoiseSVN was literally the reason I made an account here - how exactly did that shit work?
I joined in 2005 after playing Gmod v7 for many hours with my best friend. Our first collective post was a ragdoll posing thread where the winner would get a "thanks". I'm currently a network engineer for one of the largest companies in the world. Facepunch is one of my daily routines. I check this site literally every day, and have been for at LEAST the last decade. It's my go-to platform before I check Reddit, Instagram, Facebook, whatever. Several years ago a colleague asked me what Facepunch is because it was appearing as a repeated hit on our company firewalls... haha. I'll say that I was truly devastated yesterday when Facepunch didn't load. I understand that it's going away, and it's silly of me to have thought it would be around forever. But it's been a staple in my life since 2005 and it's difficult to lose something like that. I know that none of you know me, but I know all of you.
