Welcome to the Language Learners general thread! This thread is for people who are either currently learning a new language or are thinking about researching a new language to learn.
Tools
Memrise - A good tool to get familiar with a language, will definitely give you a good indication if you want to pursue a particular language.
Duolingo - Similar to Memrise in that it's a great way to gauge your interest with a language.
Dict.cc - The language learner's handbook. A dictionary that covers words, context sentences, etc. Some languages have dictionaries with much more depth such as Jisho for Japanese.
Rosetta Stone - A paid option, although you can likely find better resources for your learning opportunities. Teaches only vocabulary and phrases rather than alphabets or grammar.
Anki - A highly customizable SRS flashcard system. You can either create your own decks or download other pre-made decks. Usable with any language.
Notable Websites
Fluent in 3 Months - A site dedicated to rapidly learning languages. I've never personally used his content, and don't go in expecting to be actually fluent with a language in three months. Still a decent resource though.
4chan Int Wiki - International wiki with a guide dedicated to how to learn a language.
Reddit Language Learners - Subforum for language learners on Reddit, though it's a pretty broad subforum.
How to Learn Any Language - Site with some interesting statistics on difficulties of learning each language and the process of teaching yourself a language.

皆さんこんにちは! I've been studying Japanese for ~1-1.5 months now so I'm still pretty fresh, but I hope to push through over the next year to be able to start reading on my own without constantly relying on a dictionary. I'm taking it at my own pace which is helping me prevent burnout for sure.
So what languages are you learning today?
I'm learning Chinese, thanks for sharing the resources
I kinda wanna learn a useless language. Esperanto or something.

I might suggest something like Angllo-Saxon. It has a really interesting alphabet and has a tooon of history behind it
I've been learning Japanese for about five months. Wondering if anyone could recommend some physicals resources? I've already picked up the Genki series and I'm also looking to practice handwriting soon.
I'd definitely recommend finishing Genki first (if you haven't already). The most common recommendation I've seen after Genki is Tobira
Out of these, which would be the easiest to learn?
Spanish
French
Polish
I think the order I wrote them down is basically from easiert to hardest?
And then I'm wondering if it's a good idea to watch movies in german with spanish subs e.g. and then try it vice-versa.
where are my Latin lads and lasses at
I'm a born german and even I can't speak it properly at times, don't even get me started on grammar.
I took a quick look at the 4chan international wiki, which has some good "brotips" that include changing your phone/pc's language to the one you want to learn, even if it's just for technical stuff mostly. And then there's the one for polish: "Shit's hard, even Poles have trouble with their own language."
