Since there has been an increase in traffic towards this new forum, more and more basic inquires have popped up. The purpose of this thread is to help new members adjust to the new environment. Ask any questions on how stuff works! Any suggestions should still be directed to New Forum Comments & Suggestions. Q: How to link Facepunch accounts?
A: Can't do that yet.
Q: Why are avatars so smol?
A: Max size is currently 64x64
Q: Is gold membership coming back?
A: idk lol don't think so
Q: Can we spend Coins?
A: You may reward posts with a Coin or Diamond(10 Coin). Can't buy anything yet.
Q: What levels do?
A: Currently only fo' show. Roadmap says there will be level restricted forums.
Q: How to earn Coin and Level?
A: Don't know the specifics. Being active and stay logged in probably helps. Spamming posts doesn't work tho.
Q: How to emote?

Q: How to edit quotes?
A: No can do. You can highlight parts of the post and hit reply to quote selectively. Quoting will send a notification to that user.
Q: How to format my post?
A: Highlight your text. "Preview Post" is now almost instantaneous, wysiwyg.
Q: How to link to a specific post?
A: Click on a post's timestamp.
Regarding coins and levels: it was said that viewing different threads/subforums and posting at least twice a day helps steadily increase both.
That's as reliable as superstitions, but it wouldn't hurt to give it a try!!!
From general use, I'm pretty sure that viewing and posting in a variety of subforums increases your level
regarding coins, I think that's just if you're active, I don't think posting matters.
I read it in the official coins thread back when it first came out. You could check there to see if I got it wrong or not.
All I could find coming from garry's posts:

"No, not random. You get more coins the more active you are. You don't get coins for posting."
"The idea with level/coin earning is to encourage participation, without encouraging spamming. So while viewing the forum does increase your level, pressing F5 every second isn't going to increase it. "Also hooked it up so you get level++ for posting thread, replying and rating separate. This is throttled so you can't spam and get more."
Yeah, those are the posts that I was referencing. Thanks for finding them for posterity's sake. I know the specific function used to calculate coin and level gain is not public but those hints should be enough to give people an idea of what is going on and how it works.

I've already seen various people on newpunch already using animated avatars. I've tried uploading both a GIF and an APNG. Does anyone know how or is this some sort of bug?

Shame about all of the FT posts being purged a while back in the old forum, now gotta build up my post count there so that I can get more coins when we do the switch.
Now that quotes notify people, we should get back in the habit of quoting people even if they're the last post in the thread if we want them to notice our reply.

don't think so? you had to install a browser extension to see threads in which you were quoted, then the user who made that extension added malware because they were suicidal so everyone uninstalled it
No. I mean, you'd just have to trust the user you quoted would return to check up on the posts they made. Otherwise why would they post in the first place? To not see any replies?
Not every post is a question, but people might want to tell you something. It's extremely inefficient to revisit every thread with unreads you've ever posted in to see if someone was trying to reply to you. It just happens to be easiest on an internet forum because of the sorting and low rate of new threads.
But then that's kind of what the page visitor messages were for, right? Something absent now? I don't know. I just migrated a few minutes ago.
