I was able to automerge to a post that was 7 days old, will that thread show a new post for others?
I can see that being a problem if it doesn't when you want to post a update in a thread that's a few days old because nobody will notice due to lack of notification
Ja, automerge should only be up to 24/48 hours or so. Its purpose to curb quick double posts and needless bumps, ya?

AFAICT if the merge will cause the post to go over the character limit, it 404s after you try to hit reply
