Experimental Branch will not start up (Unknown Error)

Whenever I try to boot up Experimental Branch through Steam the game refuses to start up. When I try, it says Failed to start game: (unknown error) This happens almost instantly, with a barely noticeable gap between clicking play and it showing the error message.

If can go to rustclient.exe in the experimental folder and run it, it just shows the menu background. I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and verifying game cache. Rust legacy works perfectly fine. My computer runs on 32bit java, OS is Windows XP, and I have 2 gigs of ram (its quite a dated computer, but can run many other games fine).

I am quite puzzled and frustrated, as I want to try out the experimental version of rust. Any help will be much appreciated.
