You know those notices you get when someone kills you? You were killed by soandso's M4 etc. IMO, it would be neat to have that as a public message. This would inform others who is killing who, and how. Might give other people an early warning that a particular group and/or person is on a killing spree, or better yet, make you think twice if you really want to kill or raid a particular person.. Just a thought, what do YOU think?
From what I know, Rust is a more organic kind of game where most information is not just handed to you.
Giving this information out would make others a lot less mysterious when meeting for the first time.

I'm sorry but this is an absolutely terrible idea. There would be no mysterious bandits. Everyone would be automatically called out.

Its alright, not gonna hurt my feelings lol.. It was just a thought as I was watching some Nether LP's, seen the pvp messages popping up. Your probably right though, as it would take away from the survival realism aspect.

yeah, i agree with Brandy92.
having names of killers posted to you would kinda ruin the game.
it's just another attempt of people who struggle to start out to have an easy game.
so far, Rust is an extremely realistic game. i would even like to see the chat removed altogether.

I think removing chat altogether is excessive, I say it should operate on the same principle as the voice chat does; you can only see messages from people within range of you.
Why not vicinity chat and world chat?

Realism. On this topic though, I think that radios should be craftable, allowing for two-way communication between players across the island, though implementation of that would probably prove difficult.
I don't care about chat being realistic. After all, it's a game, not real life.
I'm personally in favor of proximity and world chat tabs being separate.

In all honesty, I could go either way, though I don't use the chat often, unless I am looking for a friend.
There have been other ideas suggested that concern Bandits, such as bounties or markers. I can understand why you might like kills to be announced, but this isn't an FPS like Counter-stike, Call of Duty, or Battlefield, so I disagree with that; however, one possible alteration could be to display the "Player X killed Player Y" message only to those in the vicinity.
Personally, I don't find a problem with the current system. It adds more excitement to the game, not knowing who to trust and giving you the option of either running away or approaching the other person. Plus, if you know someone who likes to KOS and/or kill Penis Danglers, then you can warn others. It's up to them whether or not to believe you.

Same. I try to avoid chat unless it's absolutely necessary, or maybe if I'm bored and see an interesting discussion going on.
But I prefer to talk to people on TeamSpeak as it's a lot more convenient than typing, and does not have limitations like the in-game voice chat.
It's not a terrible idea. I think the fact that the entire server can see it is though. Maybe only players in a certain radius, or only those that are close enough to hear it can see the message. This way if you're in a group you can know if you're under attack or if your friend killed the target and you're shooting a dead guy. But the whole server knowing, this is not a good idea.

Well if we are talking about realism, where would you get the parts for a radio... you'd need something to interpret radio waves and I don't think you can craft it out of wood and metal fragments :/
