Here is a thread about the new voice chat system that has been implemented in the latest version. State your opinions and suggestions below. My personal opinion is that it needs to have a smaller range, but that's it, it really works nice. I have met a TON of friendly people since it has been added. Now, since it is voice chat, it might cause some lag because of all the files that need to be sent but that's ok, we'll live with it.
Seems fine to me,i actually wanted them to add voice chat ages ago.
I was just watching a streamer just after the restart/wipe. It saved him several time already. Instead of guessing if someone if friendly you can ask. I know there's going to be asses that say they're friendly and shoot you anyway. That's DayZ middle name... Say friendly long enough to line up the shot. lol I think is great. can't wait to play myself. GG

I met about 30 people already, 25 of them said they were friendly and they really were. It's like DayZ when it first started. It's just a matter of time before it turns KoS or backstab again.
It would be better if there was a mic icon so we can know if people hear us or not. Right now I don't know if I activated voice chat or deactivated it.

They added voice chat? Oh lord
They added voice chat? Oh lord
now you can hear them rage
I'm gonna call it. Player is killed. "Haha fucking bitch! Eat a dick baddy, you're fucking bad, etc." It will be nice for everyone to be able to chat close by, but this is to be expected.
Glad you guys like it. It's kind of hard to get the voice distance right. You want it so people next to you sound like they're next to you, but people far away sound far away. In real life people far away would shout to you to make the voice louder - and you hear that they're shouting in their voice. So when in game someone far away is talking normally and you can hear them it tends to sound a bit weird. But it's better than nothing. We won't be adding speakers above their heads. We might make their mouth move when they're talking.
just enough clear quality to work, sure make TS funnier as both work at the same time, so far no cross error. confusing suddenly hear game-speak and have to check whats what....
I've always wanted to scream Leroy. But meh, I'll act more maturely so as to set an example for all the youngin's
yesterday I found some prepubescent kid who kept asking me to go away i just followed him around saying dumb shit lol [editline]10th August 2013[/editline]
Glad you guys like it.
is there any intention to prevent people using voip applications or something, or is voip just so that people who don't know one another in game can communicate?
I'm guessing it's there just so people in game have less doubts. After you meet them you should probably move to something else since other people can hear you.
I wonder if we could have a SHOUT button.. that plays your voice louder so people a distance away can hear it.
And the animation for that could be the person waving his hands in the air. (for what garry said above me)
I wonder if we could have a SHOUT button.. that plays your voice louder so people a distance away can hear it.
Sounds interesting. Perhaps we could fabricate earplugs to cancel everything out
I wonder if we could have a SHOUT button.. that plays your voice louder so people a distance away can hear it.
I can't for the life of me remember the mod but there is one mod for Arma 2 wich allows you to use a slider in order to chose how loud you will speak, from whisper to shout. Could be useful in Rust.
If people are given a choice between whispering and shouting they will always default to shouting every time.
If people are given a choice between whispering and shouting they will always default to shouting every time.
Not at all, Two groups might be trying to make some sort of deal for resources. If they wan't to discuss without the other party hearing they can whisper to eachother. Same goes for people trying to stealth and communicate at the same time. Although most can use skype or TS3 this will improve stranger interaction instead of simply shooting. Voice has already lessened the amount of KOS.
I really do like this addition. Since we've added it I've had a lot of friendly/non hostile encounters with other players chasing me down with a hatchet and whatnot. Also it's really fun to meow when my group raids. We are now known as the kitten bandits.
A choice between shouting and whispering would be a welcome addition, especially when you don't want other people to hear what you're saying to your friends.
A choice between shouting and whispering would be a welcome addition, especially when you don't want other people to hear what you're saying to your friends.
I completely agree with this
I completely agree with this
Maybe next time use the rating system in the bottom right of every post instead of posting?
You are thinking of ACE (advanced combat environment). It's not the shacktac acre control, that's something else I was thinking off.
I think the new voice system is great!
