Hello!
I'd like to share some thoughts about progression system problems in Rust at this point.
The biggest problem that i see is how easily the good stuff can be obtained in the very beginning of the game. 20 minutes after a wipe you cannot find a safe spot because of people running around with assault rifles. This is nonsense which not only brakes the game but also makes lower tier weapons like waterpipe shotgun (which i love but dont use since its currently useless) completely irrelevant, and pvp as such frustrating, unless youre the one who got AK in the first barrel/crate. melee combat is also relevant only at shores between freshspawns. Lets be honest, we only use swords and machetes to open barrels :)
So how i think this can be fixed:
1) The good stuff (anything above revolver and roadsign armor) shouldn't be a world drop. Same thing with blueprints (the new BP fragment system is excellent)
2) No weapons and armor in airdrops. Imo airdrops should give you advantage to earn good stuff, not give the good stuff itself. They should drop ammo, medkits, anti-rad pills, survey charges, BP fragments etc. Naked man getting an airdrop full of AKs, armor and other such stuff is nonsense and brakes both the balance and progression.
3) Crafting stuff should require a workbench, and crafting the best stuff should require a higher tier workbench that requires elektricity to operate. Crafting good stuff should also take longer. Crafting a rocket launcher in 3 minutes while runnign around gathering wood is kinda silly :) Getting those items should take some effort. Alot of effort actually. Losing them should be painful aswell, and not "meh, i'll just respawn and craft 10 more of those"
Most of these things can be implemented relatively easy and i believe would improve the gameplay alot, especially for newcomers. I've noticed that people usually stop playing or move to a freshly wiped server when they realize that half of server have aldready reached high-end stuff when they only get bows and torches out of their barrels. Also take in account that if people group up, one of them getting the good stuff early enough means they own the area... 20 minutes after a wipe, without any resistance at all.
Others are welcome to share their ideas and point out to me stuff i might have overlooked.
cheers
