Seriously after so many years when does the optimization work begin?
My desktop has 16GB of ram and always after an hour or so rust has gobbled up 12 or more GBs of ram, and after 2 hours or so games becomes unplayable with it consuming more and seeing my rig almost hit 100% memory usage then grind to an almost halt.
I know I'm not alone per I see players all the time saying "gotta log off and restart game" and seriously having to restart game repeatedly is not an answer.
Can we players get a fix already?
As well if you have nothing useful or helpful to say move on.
You can install linux there no memory leak.
It's a unity engine problem, the rust devs can't fix this.

This is completely wrong. If it's an issue with the engine it's likely that it will appear on all platforms

Does it say that in a devblog or are you just assuming? Even if it was Unity's fault, there's almost always a workaround.

Here is a example where they talk about it:

Here some more blogs: https://www.google.de/search?client=opera&q=memory+leak+site%3Aunity3d.com&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#q=memory+leak+site:playrust.com
In devblog 91 they said a unity update fixed it. People are still reporting a leak but it isn't as bad as it was before the fix imo.

Just seems backwards to me. Wouldn't one want to build on a stable foundation first so that when new features are added later it's easier to determine what is causing issues as features are added?
Before the leak was fixed I tried the game using 42gb ram, now its steady around 6gb. (I have 64 gb).

You mean using a foundation that is being evolved all the time and you have no say about when or what is happening when a new version is released of said foundation? (its called an engine, but I know what you mean).
If they were to create their own engine from scratch, we wouldnt even have had any kind of early access yet due to the studio size.

Unity sucks , I tried working on that but even i could have made something better then that alone ... Garry should have tried Unreal Engine or Cry Engine way better free till you reach 100k $ sales , you go 10% share i think
Need a fix. It's brutal.

I am consistently getting Windows Low on Resources & Memory and full computer lock ups due to the issue, I have 16gb of ram.
When Rust crashes due to leak I often can't recover my PC as it's taken up so much memory that even task manager won't open, it is literally a full lock up.
Windows 10 64 bit here. Extremely annoying already corrupted my installation of Windows once as I have to pull power.
A fix or workaround would be appreciated Facepunch I'm going to end up loosing all my data thanks to this.

Save your data if you don't want to lose it...

It is saved I have a backup but it's not the point is it, it uses memory to the point that there is literally none left at all. It's a serious issue, I mean task manager needs what 11mb of Ram. Just silly that it just causes a total lockup and can't even launch task manager to end task.
I don't really want to go through the headache of doing a total image restore to my HDD just because of a game bug as poster above me said "its brutal" and it is memory leaks just usually hog ram until eventually the app crashes and the memory is released. This one just keeps it the whole time at least on my config, doesn't even release it when it crashes.
Never seen such a severe memory leak in my whole life.
6 crashes today becos of this issue FML
Any Response from devs ? It has been until the most recent patch game is literally unplayable on my Rig right now.
Play for more than 25 mins and it just eats all my ram and locks up the whole system
same shit here
