Garry mentioned the forest in his devblog today, but this looks better.

dinosaurs to eat and ride....
I bought it, had fun for about 30mins. When you die all your weapons are gone & your prestige is reset. You die VERY easily from dino's. Then you have to remake all your weapons and the only thing left to do is try to tame and mount a dino. It will be a lot of fun once they add more content but for now it's pretty uneventful.
It only works in single player for me. Whenever I try to join a server, I'm stuck on the loading screen. If after a few minutes of waiting I cancel, and try to join any server again, I get immediately put back into main menu.
My friend can't even see any servers. They're just not there for him.
I'm sure The Stomping Land will be fun though... in a few years.

This actually sounds good though, death needs to have meaning in more games.
in all honesty it looks pretty stale atm. not going to buy unless a lot of crafting and building options are added.

I'm tempted but ultimately I think you're probably in the right. Best to wait and see.
If I were going to buy another survival game I would definitely go with the forest. I just don't like the idea of dinosaurs... They're so corny.

This is pretty much I how I feel. I really, really don't want dinosaurs in Rust. If they do, they had better introduce the Cerebral Bore to the game to make up for it, lol.

I agree with that, they don't belong in Rust but I have no problem with it in a game centered specifically for them.

Oh they're definitely not putting dinosaurs in Rust. At least, that was the impression I got a while back when Garry mentioned something about that poll he made.
Gotta go to sleep...but I will watch videos of this...might end up buying it, playing it and dumping Rust...
just a humble thought and opine...
I love dinos :D BUT have to see if I can enjoy the game as a solo player...if not...I'll have to admire from afar

The Forrest is pretty good, sadly im suffering fps issues. But its still a good game.
I think the forest has great potential, as soon as they added new stuff and multiplayer I will defo buy it.
The forest - comes with the prettiest wood chopping todate.
Yeah, I enjoyed playing The Forest; it has a lot of potential, just not much to do right now, but it is the beginning of alpha, so that makes sense.

Yeah, it's enjoyable until you realize you can destroy everything around you with the flare gun, nothing more spawns and you just wander around the little game world for a couple days. :)
I didn't even realize that actually. I thought it must've had limited ammo or something. I fell out of the world while goofing around yesterday and died; that gave me a pretty good laugh.
I went to a mates last night and got to play this and the forest, i was pitiful at stomping land, died 3 time in about 10 mins but the game looks promising,
The forest on the other hand, the FPS are jittery but the game play feel ok, there is a sense of urgency when you first crash, and the natives start to turn up. this is going to be my next purchase.
wonder what garry thinks of both games.
I've had The Stomping Land since May 24th. I have 3.7 hours in it.
I first played The Forest today. I already have 4.5 hours in it.
The Stomping Land has hardly any content at all. You can craft everything within the first 10 minutes of the game. The world is very bland and dull. The PvP action is not even enjoyable. If you have a hatchet, you must hold down the mouse button to swing. If you click attack, your won't attack. You must HOLD it. So, you end up in a hatchet battle with people just continuously hatcheting the air and running in circles. The spear is a 1 hit kill and the hit boxes / reach is incredibly wonky.
Once you craft everything within the first 10 minutes, the only thing left to do it tame dinosaurs. Trust me, it gets boring fast.
The Forest on the other hand is an incredibly detailed environment with many things to collect and craft. The melee action is actually satisfying and the hit boxes act as they should. You can build traps for enemies. You can build custom bases (some items like doors and ceilings are not currently in game). Exploration is actually rewarding. The caves are detailed unlike the single rock texture in The Stomping Land. You can combine many items found to create other items such as molotov cocktails and spears. There is a ton of content in The Forest and it was just released yesterday.
At this point, I would definitely recommend The Forest and STAY CLEAR of The Stomping Land.
I enjoyed building, and having my items removed within seconds from other players. Turned violent, staulk the beaches for prey and other villages. Set a new name for myself as a "bad" individual.
Otherwise I enjoy it, but seems more like a game I would have ~10 hours played on till new content is added.

Garry said they are all very jealous about the Forest :)

I'm surprised (not in a bad way). The Forest has extreme potential, but so does Rust. The Forest won't really directly compete with Rust due to the type of game it is at least (more survival versus AI than against other players)
Garry said they are all very jealous about the Forest :)
There are certainly aspects of it which Rust could certainly use as inspiration, Rust's procedurally generated map alone though will keep it interesting far longer.
ah, glad I stumbled upon this post...eventhough OP title is about the stomping land, I so much prefer single player games :) The Forest it is...though I think I might have to wait until I build my Broadwell based pc in a few months.
So as to avoid the hate, all the games are good, different styles for your different tastes...I happen to love Dinosuars...and single player games ;)

no, you cant destroy every thing with teh flare gun or the molotovs so thats some bad information

As far as cannibals you can. You're right though, that could have been misleading vis a vis world objects.

ahh i thought you meant you can burn the forest down my bad
I have the stomping land and it's fun for a little bit. Once you've done everything all you really do is either tame dinosaurs, or what a lot of people do Bola someone and trap em in a cage
My farthest day was11 on the forest :) The building leaves much to be desired but I like simple things. But, the cannibals sometime stop spawning in... Which is sad because I wanted to keep going. One you play a little and learn some tricks its fun. And also very easy...
