I have bought rust 2 days ago and my game does not save anything, dont have any cfg files also.
create the cfg folder inside rust folder. Inside cfg folder, IF you have a config.cfg rename it to client.cfg
If you don't have, create an empty client.cfg.
Start up Rust, edit/make your choices, then log in to a server, and quit the game.
It should now have filled the client.cfg file the right way!
