Right now, honeycombing your base is usless because if you dont login every day to open your door, your foundations that you cant reach will decay, give this 10 days and you base will open up. To fix this, repairing a foundation should repair all foundations within a 3x3. Or have a maintenence system on your tool cupbourd, this was done in the A2 DayZ mods of epoch base building. You could repair your whole base for a cost right at the access pole.
Have an option on the use menu that allows you to repair all foundations for the cost that it would, e.g 1k Stone, 300 wood & 500 metal frags.
The tool cupboard is suppose to be done away with. I like the idea of a repair cabinet however. Click on it and shows total HP of your base and lists how many of each resource you need to fully repair.
On the flip side, it's an artificial mechanism and the devs don't really want that.
I would advise you playing on servers with no decay, problem solved. The system it is now ingame is not perfect, but seems pretty fair to me.
I guess the developers aren't really fans of honeycombed / dead rooms at all.
Wouldn't be surprised if they gonna do something about it at some point.
I agree that it is a real bump that you have to walk around your base, wearing a hammer, just to prevent your base from collapsing. I know that it is needed to do something about the fps drops and to get rid of abandoned bases, but for now it is a real pain for the casual players who don't have the time to log in everyday.
Playing on a no decay server has its disadvantages as well: maybe other magic tricks which you don't like (insta craft, x10 gather, TP, etc.) or a smaller player base. But maybe if you look good enough than you'll be able to find a server to your preferences.
