I think it would be good to add vehicles soon because it adds alot more to look forward to its a good time waster. you could make a car missing a wheel , you could either find a wheel or make one. this would go for all the parts wheels , fuel , etc. Exept the body of the car you can not make it. Its a better way to travel and it would be fun to hit people with the car :D! Ppl could al so shoot through the windows but you should make it so you can add like scrap metal to the windows or something so they would take more shots before being broken! I think this would help us all out! Also , You should add bikes , motorcycles , quads and such!
Maybe a slower way of transportation but still faster than running maybe very basic bikes, that are very complex to make.
Here is my take on this... Instead of cars, wild animals should be able to be ridden, such as horses (or the bears!) Instead of a gas-fueled car, you have an animal which needs to be fed, and stored away so no one kills it or steals it. On the topic of cars, I think that cars damaged beyond repair should be added in, where you can scavenge parts from them, such as metal fragments, oil filters (for a makeshift silencer,) wheels for whatever purpose they might be used for (maybe can scavenge the rubber for crafting if it gets added in) or completely tear the door off and use it as a bulletproof shield for a little while (watch the face, that's not covered!) where you move slower and can use a one-handed weapon with it. To balance it, shots taken by the door have a chance of piercing through and doing damage to you, not to mention the slightly obscured view of a whole car door being held to your body. Just some thoughts!
What about adding packs of Wild horse ? ( rare spawn, constantly moving around the map, they pause to eat for x amount of time) With this you could implement things like: -Rope ( Able to lead horses ) -Saddle -Horse shoe -Horse armor This would make leather/metal even more useful

It would be nice to run people down with a horse too, they start shooting, I come running at them and trample them :v: At the same time, maybe a separate health and food meter for your horse, so you know if it has taken damage or is bleeding, allowing you to take the steps to keep it alive.
I'm down with some mode of vehicle. Bike would be the easiest to put in and work with (chains, wheels, frame and so on) Cars would work if thy took a lot to fix up and up keep (Metal buildings ++). Maybe you find a car body on the side of the road and have to build so many parts to "fix" it, could make it a really good end game type item. Would also make a new hot spot for pvp when the map gets bigger being by the road and all. I could get behind horses but the idea of feeding and keeping safe a horse that 4 shots would more then likely drop would be a pain. All the items needed for one would fit in great with this game and maybe this would have them put in the garage doors for players so we can house them but we know it would turn into one clan having horses and killing the other spawns to horde them. But any thing I come up with bad for either of them would apply to the other. So I say start off with bike parts to be found /or made and see were that takes us. Have them go up ramps so we can place them in our base/hide out. Make it were you can not put the bike in your bag so that the fear of some one running by and garbing it is there. Just my 2 cents.
No, we should add this.
My opinion is that cars aren't really a good option but quads might be. You could make them so that they are slower then cars and are very easy to get killed on and even make it so you need refined fuel made from the low grade fuel ;)
You could make the argument for gas powered vehicles. I mean here I am, naked survivor and can craft an m4 from 25 bits of low qual metal, but I really like the Idea (although done before) of Horses. Hell even add some farming or some reason to expand your foot print in game. Since there is no points awarded for pvp. once you have all the blue prints, killing other people is pretty much a dick move. Its set up right now that to have some fun you need to go pick a fight or wait for a fight to come to you and the reward is...nothing new.. you have everything already. Im sure the design team has somethings they would muse around with and like to implement.. lets start with a compass, then move on to cars =)
I feel that vehicles in general don't belong since there is only one real road on the map. however, as I mentioned above, I feel that other modes of transportation would be really useful on a map this big, especially when I go on long resource runs, this would really cut down the times. At the same time, I feel that vehicles in disrepair would be useful spawns where you can snag some spare resources. At the same time, perhaps exceedingly rare spawns of less damaged cars can be found where you can gather the necessary resources to repair it and use it. This way, it is a "you snooze, you lose" mentality. As things are, this may require the creation of a small highway system connecting to different areas of the island. While you could walk the highway as well, a vehicle would certainly speed it up. To sum it all up, vehicles do not belong in the current build, but it is certainly an optimistic thought which just might be viable later down the line!
Horses just seem like a better option in every way
Horses just seem like a better option in every way
I agree, plus if you somehow end up starving, it's horse burgers for dinner! :v:
I agree, plus if you somehow end up starving, it's horse burgers for dinner! :v:
Seriously though. I feel like it's also much easier to get attached to a horse than a car. How crazy would it be to have this companion that has been with you through the seasons (if and when they implement them) to just be shot and killed right under you. It has so much potential especially in a game like this.

You would feed it, take care of it when it gets injured, even make armor for it. It's like a raiding buddy that only does transportation. I feel that it can work for other animals too, to different results. For example, taming a bear (somehow) which moves slower, but can maul other players, effectively protecting itself when you are away. Add armor to the equation, and you have a formidable beast that is both a companion as much as it is also protection and a mode of transportation. Another thought would be, assuming RPG elements make it into the game, that your animal levels up with you, to deal extra damage, have some extra health, or can move faster, there's a whole lot of stuff that can go into it, it's really exciting!
I still like the idea someone had a while back about hang gliders. In a lot of ways it has a lot of balance built into it already: You have to start from a high point, your speed and range is limited by your starting height (maybe add thermals or down-bursts to add a challenge to it?), one could theoretically be built from wood and cloth (think the plane from that one episode of Macgyver, minus the engine), landing to hard/fast or without a large open space could hurt/kill you. Especially considering the new fall damage mechanic now in place, and the fact that people are always building towers to the sky, a hang glider would seem to me like it would be a perfect fit for the game.
That could be interesting, but on the downside that will turn in a Gliding fest with tower to max Height and people gliding next to Air drop
Maybe, but there could be a variety of mechanics to alleviate this, such as... - Colliding with trees or buildings causes the glider to break, resulting in injury/death (this would mean landings would require large open areas, and air drops in the trees would not be easy to get to). - Colliding with another players gliders (in PVP servers) cause BOTH gliders to break, again, resulting in injury/death (This would mean the more people using gliders at any given time, the more risky it is, thus reducing traffic... or possibly increasing suicide gliding).

I put agree to his post but meant to put disagree!

Even then, there's going to be a new map soon anyways.
I don't know about you guys, but I have a Bear farm. I use the Bears for transportation. If you'd like to purchase an Epic Level 60 Bear Mount (only 20 Torches and 20 Rocks for payment), pm me on US North II. ^___^
