Hello people,
I was wondering why Reddit (the playrust one) is currently preferred over this forum? I have the feeling that you are more likely to be heard when you post something on Reddit than in this forum. Even the last dev blog mentioned that if we have any comments we are free to mention them on Reddit, but nothing was said about their own Facepunch forum :speechless:.
Since I was curious about the reason for this I tried to search through this forum if I could find a reason, but I ended up finding this old thread (https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1298090&highlight=reddit) which is even mentioning how bad Reddit is (was). Now I am totally clueless why Facepunch moved over to use Reddit for feedback of their community over using their own forum.
I really like to give my feedback and to give some ideas and thoughts about this very great game, but since I found out that Reddit is more likely to be read by the developers I guess that I have to transfer my text and thoughts to Reddit...
Isn't that crazy? Or is it just me being narrow-minded?:ohno:
I was thinking this exact same thing!
Could a FP staff member please clarify - do you prefer posts on here or reddit?
More users.
Facepunch forums has a small audience, compared to Reddit which has millions of users. People are gonna prefer to use a something they already have an account for, rather than make a account for a new forum.

Also constant rust posts flood the new thread page for users who don't play rust.

That makes sense yeah! But shouldn't be the hardcore comments come from the true Facepunch forum? I really thought that posting my ideas here would end up being more likely to be read than posting it on Reddit (where I don't have an account yet). I guess the hardcore part of the community once thought this as well when posting their comments. But now I have the feeling that none of the Facepunch crew is reading the posts here on the Facepunch forum(except for the whining people who got EAC banned).
EDIT:
I want to emphasize the part of feeling, since I don't have any evidence to support this.

The "hardcore" part of facepunch are people who don't even play Rust but rather dwell around the other parts of Facepunch.

Then I have to specify the hardcore part to hardcore Rust players, because those people I mean. The ones who play Rust, who want to share their feelings and ideas about Rust such that the developers can take that into consideration. Just so that the developers know, they are still the developers and they decide what to happen, but they know the public opinion.
reddit is community run, and a good place to find other players. it has more users, but the content is a bit less accurate since it is mostly provided by players.
fp forum is official, and good for getting your opinion seen by devs. also a good source of official information, though the blog is better, and the reddit does have some semi active devs over there.
because everyone on the forum has been banned by postal
I hope they don't listen to Reddit too much, there are constantly upvoted threads bashing features that aren't even implemented yet and hugely upvoted posts that describe ideas that make no sense at all.
Not to mention all the hating on FP staff.
because this place is traditionally full of cunts

you called for me?
because this place is traditionally full of cunts
Then we have to stop the not-so-nice people. Here do the developers have more power than in Reddit, since they can ban the people who aren't nice. Ending up in a much nicer and useful community I guess.
As a long time reddit user that recently started browsing here, honestly:
reddit has a few features that makes it better to use IMO, the UI is cleaner and simple, it allows you to quickly filter out shitposts and trolls and customize the interface (hate using here on mobile). As an advantage of here, and traditional forums in general, is that it handles better the archive of old posts and stickies, so you are less inclined to have similar posts repeated over and over.
Also one big thing I noticed in here is that there is almost zero tolerance to transgression and people are banned left and right, whereas on reddit people's post are mostly moderated by the community. This might be viewed as good or bad, but I guess because of this people prefer reddit as a day to day, more laid back discussion board.

Would you care to provide a few examples? Because people are only banned for good reason, either it be shitposting/trolling or people just straight up making crap threads to flame other users and not actually create proper discussion, if you post on here, you should read the rules and understand how a place works, instead of making assumptions.

Sorry I wont search for examples. I'm actually ok with it, not questioning, but I did notice a lot of banned people for what seemed like one transgression. But I just got here so what do I know.

I mean.. this guy asked for it. But my point remains that maybe that's why there are more people on reddit, and given the example, maybe it's a good thing..
It is true that some people are being banned, but they truly ask for it. And that keeps this forum clean! So the left-over will be good questions about PC/performance related topics, input about the game and some other useful stuff, since the moderators are from Facepunch and decide what is allowed and what not. Then again I wonder why the majority of the facepunch staff (again I have to emphasize that this is my feeling and not based on evidence) is listening to the Reddit Rust community instead of the Facepunch forum Rust community.

one reason was already given: more people / threads
another I can think of: the upvoting system allows for quickly filtering of good suggestions, relevant bug reports, etc. They can order by the top weekly posts instead of having to swim on a sea of shitposts and ban appeal threads..

i don't know i agree about "good" suggestions. "popular" maybe, but not definitively good suggestions.
that said, upvoting does have benefits so i do agree with you there.
Hi! I'm an ex mod here. The way things go for a LOT of communities, reddit always feels like the 'preferred' place to go. It's likely because of how it's actually self-curated and good posts naturally rise to the top while whiny posts and dumb suggestions fade away without so much as surfacing. On the other hand, on most games' dedicated forums you have to wade exclusively through a list of threads sorted by which have been posted in last, with the only curation being banning and threadlocks to prevent new posts from bumping it up the list again.
In the end, it's good to visit both! You're more likely to get a direct answer from staff on the home forum than the reddit (though reddit you'll find a LOT of people who can solve problems not traditionally handled by the devs), while the reddit is more about the good side of the community. It's always good to check back and forth depending on the type of content and responses you're looking for.
As mentioned before, reddit is one of those things that everyone already has an account for. If I got rust and didn't know what facepunch was, I'd probably hang out on the reddit before bothering with registering an account at 'yet another' site just to be the new guy with no postcount. I do have to wonder if there's actually more people on the reddit, or if it's just pure activity while the same people only occasionally post here. FP's population isn't exactly small by any means
