If you're on the dev branch and have restarted steam recently, you'll be asked to install EAC on run.
EAC is a lightweight anti-cheat. To do it's job it needs elevated permissions (because any decent cheats run with elevated permissions).
We're working with the EAC guys to make this process as quick, smooth and painless as possible. The install should be pretty much instant. The EAC service should only run when the game is running. It should only consume less than 1mb of memory. It shouldn't consume any CPU at all.
So please use this thread to describe any problems or fears you have with this process, so we can battle them better when this all goes live.
Please note: We're only testing out the install procedure at the moment. EAC isn't actually doing anything yet. It isn't required to play the game yet, we have no kind of enforcement.
That's cool
Whoa nice
hopefully this helps
So what's happening to cheatpunch? Is EAC replacing cheatpunch?
Cheat punch isn't really an anti-cheat. It's just a game stats reporter. Being able to detect cheats was just a by product.

hmmm what about FF?
How many anti-cheats do you want us to use?
EAC will work on a secure server, together with VAC?
edit:
opps, sorry

not attentive.
Game doesn't want lunch on DevBranch (Gray background with skull)
I restarted Steam, launched the game. Next, I was prompted to install the anti-cheat. Game launcher window appears. But I did not see the message about the successful installation of anti-cheat, besides I do not see EAC in Windows uninstall manager. How do I know whether it is installed or not?
Great, thx Garry. Waiting for next update with EAC :)
Good job.
VAC, Cheatpunch and now EAC.
Can't wait:)
Will EAC Trigger a VAC Ban ?
Before release can we get a brief explanation on how it works? Not to benefit cheats just to know if we gonna get some comp spikes due to screenshots and what not like most other anti cheats work.
Didnt get any installation window. Console app appears for 1 sec and closed after game started.

Yes it will. These comments are so well thought out and educated :downs:

As fas as I know VAC is working completely independent.
Awesome been looking foward to this :D.
The more anticheat the less hackers we have, i'm surprisingly ok with this. Thanks garry for adding more stuff for getting people banned. :P
How many anti-cheats do you want us to use?
As many as are needed to seriously curb the problem.
All of the anti-cheat.
Let's add Punkbuster and BattlEye to be sure everything is secured.
Well, I doubt Punkbuster is helpful. :v:
As long as it actually helps against cheaters, I'm up for it. I really don't care what third party anti-cheat you are going to use. Pick up the best one, I will install and I will gadly play the game.
Garry, I know you personally don't like third party anti-cheaters, but have you asked yourself if your costumers care at all? Because based on the amount of people playing games with third party anti-cheaters, I have the feeling that most people simply don't care, as long as they see no cheaters in game.
So yes, I think this is something to consider. Make a poll or something like that.
Keep up the good work.

This is the right answer.
Isn't EAC supposed to ask to be installed? I recognize a cmd window popping up very shortly but I don't get asked anything. The EasyAntiCheat process is running though. Or is this just something I confused with another thread about this?
I guess the main idea is to make cheating way less insecure and not worth making anyway. The hardwork someone would have to go through just to make a hack for rust that would bypass 3 anti-hacks and update it constantly would not be worth.
However most of the annoying hackers are using ingame exploits and as soon as those exploits gets fixed the game will have way less problem than we got now :3.

Going back to the topic :
The EAC instalation took 1 click + 1 second and had no error at all. However i cant run the game properly. I'm stuck on the main screen.
PS: Works fine out of the dev branch.
Also what's the difference between staging and dev branch ?

I dont think you'll get the popup window if you disabled UAC.
I used Regshot, that would track the changes in the system (file system and registry). It's nothing. Looks like the setup simulation.
hope the testing goes well enough to get it started on this weekend or else its going to be another bad weekend on the official server
Game doesn't want lunch on DevBranch (Gray background with skull)
maybe it isn't hungry?
wow i need admin rights and a ring0 driver to play rust? really?
the eac developer has not kernel experience and you want to install a fucking driver on my system? NERVER
Its so easy to detect the most payed cheats without driver
